2011-11-28 Tuolumne Meadows/Pothole Dome : Normally Highway 120 is closed this time of year. When we found it open we thought lets take one last hike in the high country before the road closes for the season. Our destination was Pothole Dome on the West end of Tuolumne Meadows at around 8000-9000 ft elevation. First stops included Siesta Lake, always a little jewel, and Olmstead Point. The rest of the pics are of the Pothole Dome Hike, about 1/2 mile hike one way and about 250 ft elevation gain, no biggie. But.... really nice! On the way back we came across a small frozen waterfall on the side of the road, weird looking! All in all a terrific day!

Yosemite (2011) : Images from a 3-day trip: May 26 to May 28 (2011). The falls and streams were pounding with water -- courtesy of a heavy snow pack. Images from day 1 are from El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall, and Snow Creek Trail. Images from day 2 are from El Capitan and Upper Yosemite Falls trail. Images from day 3 are from El Capitan, Washburn Point and the Panorama trail (Glacier Point to the valley via the John Muir trail). The weather turned wet and cold on day 3. Even had fresh snow falling as I climbed the uphill segment of the Panorama trail. During one pause in the rain, clouds began rising from the valley -- an ever changing and wonderful scene. The last 4 images are from August-2011 -- passing through Yosemite on the way to Mono Lake.

Tuolumne Meadows and Soda Springs Sept 2011 : Tuolumne River and Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite National Park, California. Highway 120. Even though the calendar still says "summer" its in the chilly 40s today at almost 10,000 feet. It's raining here and there and some thunder claps can be heard. Its always good to have alternate hiking plans when visiting the mountains!

Mist Trail Vernal Footbridge to Top of Vernal Fall July 2011 : I don't know any of the people in the photos. I hiked alone. I never went close to the river while taking photos, so if things look close its the zoom. Never climb over rails or go close to the river. Its all too easy to fall in and the current is very strong.
Hiking from the Vernal Footbridge to the top of Vernal Fall. (Height of the fall is 317 feet, 97 meters). For the hike from the valley to the footbridge go back to the previous photo gallery. If you can't make it to the top of Vernal Fall, that's OK, the last 0.1 mile goes past the fall, you can no longer see it, and is nothing special. Nor is there anything special about being on top, though its nice. The best (and most difficult) part of this 0.3 mile hike is the middle third of the hike. Be aware... steps are very uneven, wet, often with water rushing down, more often than not there's no rail to hold on to, and you will get misted (or more likely) rained on heavily by the waterfall, and it will be very windy in parts, water rushing down the fall creates a lot of wind.
