This was my first trip into the Yosemite high country. I left Oakland at midnight and made the for hour drive to Olmsted Point where I parked and awaited dawn. I was fortunate, there was a meteor shower that evening, the Perseids if memory serves me, it made for some spectacular viewing. At twilight I hiked up the dome at Olmsted Point and caught site of Tenaya Lake, I hiked back down to the car and managed to to make it here before sunrise was lost.

I would like to say this was an effortless shot...

By this time I was in the throws of altitude sickness, yup... 27 minutes after getting out of the car. I was nauseous, dizzy, sweating and feeling three times my age. I had hiked just a bit further down the beach to the right of this shot only to realize I needed to get out of the mountains and maybe Mono Lake would offer me relief, ultimately it did. However sloshing through a stream, using my tripod for balance and waiting to hurl at any moment I looked to my right and saw this...

I did what every hardcore photographer would do. I pulled out my iPhone and snapped a pic. Fortunately I looked at the image and to my utter disgust, at that moment, I realized it was too good to pass up. I turned set up the shot and this was the result.

The remainder of the day was less productive. I rarely managed to get very far from the car and most of the shots were taken a spitting distance from it. I was home, feeling MUCH better, by 8pm that night.

Still lets face it. A bad day in Yosemite is still better than a good day elsewhere...
