Woodland Park Zoo,Seattle and NW Trek : While I am not a huge fan of animals in cages, I do have to give the Seattle Zoo some credit. They have really tried to design the best possible habitat for the resident animals.

NW Trek is not exactly a zoo, the animals kept here are allowed to roam the vast property together except the predators which have their own territory of which they keep very few. The animals have been injured or found kept in less than great condition. They are encouraged to live and act as close to being in the wild as possible. Such as the bears food is buried in different places so they have to find and dig for it, they are also encouraged to climb trees. As you can see by their coats and girth, they are well taken care of. All of the animals kept here are native to Washington.

San Francisco Zoo - Western Lowland Gorillas - 2009 : Note: I've split 2009 & 2010 Hasani & Gorilla photos. For 2010 photos see: http://pacificaarts.smugmug.com/Zoos/SFZooGorillas2010/11147259_DiEqr#781212925_vdErW
"Hasani", a baby Western Lowland Gorilla, just turned one year old on the 8th of December 2009. He runs around everywhere now. He likes climbing, and taking back rides. He puts everything in his mouth, plays with the adults, and loves to pile dirt on his head. The first photos are the most current, and then the photos go back in time through June 2009. "Bawang" is the surrogate mother to Hasani, and is very attentive and caring. Having already raised three babies of her own, she is an experienced mother. Auntie "Zura" is also very interested in little Hasani, and plays with him, taking him for rides. Hasani was abandoned by his natural mother, but is doing well under the care of the keepers and Bawang. Hasani has been introduced to the rest of the group, and now stays with them all day. I will update Hasani photos periodically, so check back and see him grow!

Minnesota Zoo - 2012 : These photos were taken at the Minnesota Zoo on June 1, 2012. It's a beautiful zoo, and very large. I had a small zoom lens on my camera on that trip (didn't want to lug my 100-400 through the airport), and so a lot of the photos are not as close as I would've liked them to be. I've left most of the photos at a 4"x6" size, which makes them nice "looking at" pictures, but not good enough for enlargements. It was a fun day, and I had a blast, shooting side by side with my brother, Pat. He out-gunned me with his new point and shoot, zoom camera!
