I'm shy
2010-09-13 Say hello to Tuluba - he was one month old when this shot was taken a week ago. He still likes to hide beneath her mother. he can already pick up little bread pieces with his trunk and is getting more agile day by day.

Not the finest quality picture I've ever taken, but seeing (or trying to see) this young kid was the reason we went to the zoo last Monday. Bright light and dark shadow and far away. Many many thanks for your comments on Edward at Yellowstone. I'm still working through the 200 or so 'embarrassing' shots to put in a private gallery.
Phyllorhiza punctata - Australian spotted Jellyfish
2011-02-07 I spotted these spotted jellyfish at the aquarium.

Thanks for your comments on the bearded dragon. Busy days again - took some pictures at church on Saturday and I now need to process them. Enjoy the day.
Oriole?
2010-11-08 This shot was taken in the 'tropical zone' of the Chester Zoo, England. I can't identify the bird, maybe some kind of oriole.

Thanks for the comments on the Chester Cathedral shot.
Malaysian Jellyfish
2010-09-09 Another shot from Monday's trip to the zoo. The Vienna zoo has only one kind of jellyfish (at least only one on display), and this is it, labelled "Malaysian Jellyfish". There must have been a Latin name, but I didn't note it.
Many thanks for the comments on my snake-like swimmer. Have a great day.

P.S. This has been identified as Sanderia malayensis
Butterflies
2010-11-11 Well I did get a few butterfly shots from the many I took in the butterfly house at the Chester Zoo in England, so I decided to present them as a collage. The full-sized pictures are in my Europe Gallery: http://www.jerrybarton.eu/Landscapes/Other-Europe/8070611_LvnXc#1086425200_Jq6zX

Many thanks for the comments on yesterday's butterfly shot (which is part of this collage of course).
Here's Looking at You, Kid - as a future meal
2010-11-05 This elegant Andean Condor was looking over its shoulder at the Chester Zoo in England.

Many many thanks for your comments on the early morning shot.
Well, the eye is in focus :)
2011-02-15 Just for fun. This poor photo of an octopus was taken at the Vienna aquarium, and of course with very low light and he was zooming around. But the eye is in focus, and that's rule #1 for portraits - right?

Many thanks for your comments on the spires of Vienna. There sure are enough churches in Vienna.
Whooo are Youuu?
2010-12-27 Saw this owl awake on her perch at the zoo a few days ago. Tried to get rid of the fencing behind her but never succeeded to my satisfaction. This is a long-eared kind of owl (german = Uhu, I wonder who made that name up).

Many thanks for yesterday's comments and wishes. No luggage for my son yet, but at least the shops are open today so we can buy him some clothes.
