Baffled Squirrel : We have several birdfeeders, which means we have an ongoing battle with squirrels, who will empty an entire feeder in minutes given half a chance. The squirrels constantly try to outwit the baffles and squirrel-proof feeders we use to try to stymie them. On July 7, 2004 I captured the hilarious antics of this frustrated squirrel as it tried every which way to get into the suet feeder. They are presented here in precisely the order in which they occurred as the squirrel scrambled around the feeder struggling to find a way to get at the tasty suet that was so near, and yet so far. At one point it managed to get close enough to <i>lick</i> the suet, but despite its best efforts, couldn't qui-i-i-ite squeeze its head in far enough to get a bite. The squirrel was amazingly persistent, but was ultimately baffled in its quest, and finally -- much to my amusement -- gave up.
