Abandoned Westclox plant in Athens, GA (Clarke County). June 2008

What began in 1884 as one-clock-per-day operation in Peru, IL, eventually developed, after several bankruptcies, reorganizations and mergers into the Western Clock Company and the Westclox trademark, then the Westclox Division of the General Time Corporation.

The Westclox factory in Athens, GA opened in 1954 and was the last American Westclox plant when it closed in 2000. Today, the factory building sits empty, the dead clock stuck at 2:16, and the parking lot slowly being reclaimed by weeds.
