My Garden : When I first moved into my townhouse in 1988, the backyard, which is rather small, was covered with grass and had a very small tree in the middle of it. I inquired about the tree and found out that it was definitely NOT suitable for a very small backyard. So, my dad (who was an avid gardener and had the greenest thumb of anybody I know) and I began a very long, back-breaking task of pulling up all of the grass and removing the tree. That wasn't bad enough . . . the so-called "dirt" was a mixture of coral and clay. But - little by little and a couple of years later (my folks would only come down during the winter), we managed to plant a little garden. Everything I do in my backyard is in his honor and memory :) It continues to be a "work in progress."

Where Have All the Flowers Gone! : Temple Square at 5:30 am - a brief window of quiet time to enjoy the glory of spring. I was alone for about an hour enjoying the masses of color in every direction and composing a picture or two. Then seemingly out of nowhere, gathered a hundred or more garden volunteers. Vast quantities of shovels, rakes, and garbage bags were distributed and quickly the crowd separated into groups and scattered about the gardens. About half an hour later almost all the flowerbeds were bare - that fast - color gone! I couldn't help but think about the early morning brides who would come out of the Temple expecting to have their wedding pictures filled with spring flowers! (Also included here are additional favorites from this spring, 2008.)
