Wildflowers Canada : Canadian wildflowers with most images taken in Ontario. One image for each species and all taken in the wild. Additional images available through the hyperlink in the caption. Includes non-native species (identified as non-native) that are established in the wild. Popular names and grouping generally as per the USDA database . I'm not a botanist so there may be errors in the ID's. Corrections welcome. One of the sites I find useful for identifying Ontario Wildflowers is OntarioWildflowers.com.
For updates to this gallery check Adds and Upgrades to Wildflowers Canada........ Location Map for this Gallery

Gaspé Peninsula Gallery : Reford Gardens is part of the Gaspé Peninsula, on the southern shore of the St. Lawrence River, built on a cliff overhanging the water. The area is called Grand-Métis. The Gardens are a stunning tribute to their creator, Elsie Reford (1872-1976), who achieved outstanding success with her plantings in this northerly land. I owe thanks to the wonderful Louise Tanguay, an extraordinary photographer and teacher, Alexander Reford, current director of the Gardens, and great grandson of Elsie Reford and to Patricia Gallant, head gardener at Reford. For anyone interested I urge a visit. Reford Gardens has a website and Louise and Alexander collaborated on a small book part of the "Guides to the Gardens of Quebec" series, called "Reford Gardens". It is a beautiful guide to the gardens and the history of Reford.

The shores of the St. Lawrence river are a world unto themselves with small vacation towns, family farms, wild parks, indigenous animals, whales, seals, great forests and stunning sunsets. This gallery focuses on a road trip tour about 2/3's of the way up the Gaspé. We first visited Reford Gardens and stayed in Métis Sur Mer. Then we crossed the river to the north shore for whale watching and a tour of the Saugenay Fjord. Our last stop was at friend's farm in upstate NY. Our friend raises and trains border collies. In order to do that you need sheep, so I got some sheep and dog shots in here too. You can purchase any image, in almost any incarnation, by clicking on "add to cart". Pollination Nation. Bees Wasps and more : I've decided to create a gallery specifically for pictures of insects that are known to pollinate flowering plants while they are actually in the act of visiting flowers. The gallery will include the obvious suspects...bees, wasps, butterflies, moths. I'm sure there will be other types of insects as time goes by and I personally learn more about such helpful creatures. Pictures of these same insects doing other things, or doing nothing, will still go in the 'Invertebrates' gallery for now. In cases where I was able to get several pictures of the same 'visitation', I'll try to put the one(s) that best show the insect for purposes of identification or for illustrating behavior here, while ones that are better for showing the flowers will get routed to appropriate vegetation galleries.

Because my separation of certain invertebrates into this gallery is about function, not form, as illogical as it might seem to a biologist, I'm leaving caterpillar shots in my 'Invertebrates' gallery even though nectaring adult forms, namely butterflies and moths, appear here, at least for now.

I'm not great at specific insect identifications. Any help you care to offer will be gratefully accepted by me.
