Pollination Nation. Bees Wasps and more : I've decided to create a gallery specifically for pictures of insects that are known to pollinate flowering plants while they are actually in the act of visiting flowers. The gallery will include the obvious suspects...bees, wasps, butterflies, moths. I'm sure there will be other types of insects as time goes by and I personally learn more about such helpful creatures. Pictures of these same insects doing other things, or doing nothing, will still go in the 'Invertebrates' gallery for now. In cases where I was able to get several pictures of the same 'visitation', I'll try to put the one(s) that best show the insect for purposes of identification or for illustrating behavior here, while ones that are better for showing the flowers will get routed to appropriate vegetation galleries.

Be patient while I collect older pictures that fit this gallery. For now, the gallery is sorted in reverse order of date taken. I'm not great at specific insect identifications. Any help you care to offer will be gratefully accepted by me.

Joni's Garden : Joni has long loved the garden and gardening. Flowers and Foliage are her great passion in the garden."Gardening is both an addiction and therapy all in one", she has been known to say to friends. The hard work and sweat that it takes to have a beautiful garden is well rewarded with beauty and satisfaction.

I (John) have grown to love these green friends also. However, I also enjoy photographing them - and prefer that to the hard work - dirty part of gardening. That is not to say that my hands are not often dirty and my back sore!

It won't take long for you to notice that the gardens are not perfect. As much as we would love to have "perfect" gardens, lack of time and nature itself contribute to the more natural look of Joni's Garden. We admire a well manicured yard yet are not driven to making ours precise. After all, it is more about the beauty that God has made than what we have done with it.

All of these photos were taken in our yard from 2005 to present (most recent first).

Joni and I both hope you enjoy Joni's Garden with us.
