darkblueworld > IRAQ NATIONAL GUARD ON OIL SECURITY PATROLS 29/08/2004..

The 1st Company of the 70th Brigade of the Iraqi National Guard, in partnership with Coalition Forces, are employed in the protection & security of Iraq's oil infrastructure. This involves 24hr patrolling, vehicle checkpoints (VCP's) and security of the country's refineries. They have bases within coalition strongholds and work in cooperation with multinational forces.
They can be called upon to act as a quick reaction force when needed and assist the Iraqi Police Service when required. 29/08/2004.
Pictured- Petty Officer Andy Gedge of the Combat Camera Team postions himself in the back of the land rover to get a better view at a local petrol station just outside the city of Basra, Southern Iraq.
The Iraqi National Guard where called to the petrol station after two gun men tried to get to the front of the petrol queue but where challenged by two Iraqi police officers.

Shatt has recently given birth to five Kittens and they all have taken up residence in the Admin office.

darkblueworld > FATHER AND SONS REUNITED AS GHURKHAS MARK HALF CENTRY. 24/09/2004...

A parade in Baghdad to mark the 50th anniversary of the Queens Ghurkha Signals (QGS) cap badge was also a family celebration, when a father met up with his two sons for the first time in six years.
The parade at Maude House in Baghdad commemorated one held 50 years earlier in Kuala Lumpur at which the then Ghurkha Royal Signals received their cap badge. All QGS serving in Iraq attended the parade, including former Warrant Officer Hariaya Tamang and his sons Corporal Dughendra and Sapper Tamba.
GS Commanding Officer (Iraq) Major Ade Clewlow said:
When I asked Sapper Tamang to play the pipes at the parade, he told me his brother was also in Iraq, based like him at Shaibah Logistics Base near Basrah. He also told me his father was now working for a civilian security company in Baghdad. They had not seen their father together for six years. It seemed only natural to bring them together on this special day. It was a very special day for everyone, not just celebrating our badges half century, but also seeing a family meet up after so long.
The parade coincided with one at QGS UK home in Bramcote, which included some soldiers from the original parade in 1954, who been specially flown back from Nepal for the occasion. The Baghdad parade was a huge success, attended by all the serving Ghurkhas currently in Iraq as well as ex-serving members working for a security company in Baghdad. The Senior British Military Representative (Iraq), General John McColl CBE DSO, was the inspecting officer and cut the celebratory birthday cake.
The 246 Ghurkha Signal Squadron, part of 2 Signal Regiment, are currently based at Maude House, within the green zone of Baghdad, at Shaibah Logistics Base and Basra. They deployed from Imphal Barracks, York on 1st July 04 for six months.
