Wild Encounters
The wildlife of our great nation and the world are in my opinion one of our most precious resources, we owe it to ourselves and to future generations to ensure that we have healthy and diverse populations of animals of all types.
In todays world of money driven decisions and placing a monetary value on everything it is vitaly important that we do not overlook the true value of the wildlife and wild lands.
I am committed to helping to maintain wildlife and the habitat that they require to survive and am willing to use my images to help achieve that goal. If you are a not for profit or educational organization and see an image you would like to use for such purposes please contact me directly and we can work out an arrangement. All of the wildlife shown on this site are photographed in the wild unless otherwise mentioned. I believe in maintaining strict ethical practices when photographing wildlife, which includes no baiting or attempting to approach to closely in a manner which could place the animal or people in danger or cause the animal act in an unnatural manner. I sincerely hope you like the images I have presented here and if you don't see what you are looking for feel free to contact me via email @ paultnature@yahoo.com and tell me what you are looking for and I will attempt to get you the image you want.

I take wildlife protection very seriously and firmly believe we owe it to ourselves and future generations to ensure that there will allways be wildlife to enjoy and photograph. The key to this is habitat, without viable and healthy habitat the images you see here would not exist!
I strongly urge you all to do whatever you can to help our wildlife thrive, I will donate a portion of the money I recieve from the sale of the images on this site to one or all of the organizations listed,
The Nature Conservancy, The National Wildlife Federation, The Association of Northwest Stealheaders, Friends of Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge.

Sincerely Paul:

The rocky mountain elk, an iconic creature that defines the grandeur and rugged nature of the region that it is named after. This large herd bull is working hard to keep his harem together and defend his territory from other bulls. I photographed him and his girls in the Norris region of Yellowstone National Park in September 2010.
The Rocky Mountian Elk, the iconic figure in the american wild. Known to the native Americans as the wapiti this creature is probably the most sought after of all the big game animals of North America. I happened across this bull and his harem of cows one september evening in Yellowstone National Park.
The Colmbian white-tailed deer, listed as a protected species back in 1967 and placed on the endangered species list in 1978 when the act was passed by congress. This species of deer exists in only three places on the planet, along the lower Columbia River in Oregon and Washington and in the Umpqua river basin in southern Oregon. This image was made at the Julia Butler Hansen White-tail deer refuge in southwest Washington. Just look at that face, is that not the most precious look you have seen? Is this critter not worth saving? It is moments like this that I live for and I urge all who may view this and the other images on this site to please do what you can to help this and other animals have a place to live and grow. This means live in as low an impact as you can, donate or become a member of your local friends of whatever wildlife refuge is near your home or groups like the Nature Conservancey or the National Wildlife Federation or any other group or organization dedicated to preserving and enhanceing wildlife habitat.
Aquila chrysaetos, or the golden eagle proud and majestic to say the least. I will never forget the first time I saw a golden in the wild feeding on a deer carcas along the highway in eastern Oregon. It was so big and powerful looking it took my breath away and I have been captivated by them ever since. I was blessed to have been able to photograph this bird in the west end of the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone in May of 2009.

Falco sparverius, or the American Kestral is the smallest member of the falcon family. These birds birds are one the most challenging brids to photograph as they are very skittish and intollerant of being approached. They can often be seen kiteing or hovering over grasslands in search of rodents and bugs. This one is feeding on a grasshopper at the Ridgefield wildlife refuge in southwest Washington.
