Kirkwood provides an experience like no other resort and part of the adventure is skiing high angle groomers. Kirkwood grooms slopes that other resorts would never dream of taking a snowcat down. How do they do it? With a team of winch cats. Notice the big boom like arm on this snowcat and the big spool and red hook? This apparatus allows the driver of the winch cat to anchor to a base at the top of the ski slope and winch up and down the run grooming the steep slope for skiers to enjoy. Without anchoring down the cat it would surely tumble down the mountainside end over end like a Tonka Toy.
