"BLUES MURALS" 2008
Leland, MS
I absolutely LOVE beautiful, creative, interesting, unconventional, unorthodox, and unusual ART!!! I am not, however, a fan of the blues, but I photograped thse murals because of their artsy. That's why they call it the blues! Painted by artist Cristen Craven Barnard, musician and artist Jay Kirgis, and others, starting in 2000, the Leland Blues Murals depict musicians from the Leland area, including Jimmy Reed, Little Milton, Eddie Cusic, Willie Foster, and James "Son" Thomas. When the first Delta Bluesmen took Highway 61 to the industrial north to find work, they also took their music. Today, the music born in the Delta is revered worldwide and recognized as the roots of jazz, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and hip hop. Click here for additional information:
