The Buffalo Soldiers of the Arizona Territory - Ladies and Gentlemen of the Regiment, Headquarters Mesa, Arizona is an 'INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATION'.


Special Requests and Special Thanks from Mrs. Laura Causey Smith (wife): The "Buffalo Soldiers of the Arizona Territory, Mesa, AZ" were the Honorary Pallbearers of John Ford (Johnny) Smith, II - Harlem Globetrotter and Buffalo Soldier at the Corona Ranch, Phoenix, AZ at the conclusion of the service.

Buffalo Soldiers Honorary Pallbearers: Cmdr Fred Marable, Pvt. Michelle London-Marable, Sgt. Ordnance Madison Walker, Sgt. Edward Reece, Sgt. Major Charles Young and Adbul Muhummand). Ladies and Gentlemen of the Regiment, Ms. Shelby Lynch, Bobbi Walker and Billy Stewart.

John Ford Smith II, former teacher, Harlem Globetrotter, actor, Buffalo Soldier civil war re-enactor and family man, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on January 2, 2010 while on vacation in Memphis, Tenn. He was 62 years old and a life-long resident of Phoenix.

Accomplishments:
* Graduated from South Mountain High School, Phoenix, AZ in 1965
* Attended Phoenix College before transferring to the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma Washington. Bachelor of Arts Degree in elementary
education in 1969.
* Inducted into the university's basketball Hall of Fame in 1992.
* Drafted by the Seattle Supersonics where he played through the exhibition season and finally in the Eastern League.
* Recruited by the world famous "Harlem Globetrotters in 1972 through 1980.
* Played with the Harlem Wizards and Meadowlark Lemon's Bucketeers.
* Inducted into the Phoenix College Athletics "Hall of Fame" in May 2009.
* Long-time teacher, historian, and political activist Senoma Smith and notable Negro Baseball League pitcher
* Executive Director of the Arizona Civil Rights Commission
* Joined a Buffalo Soldier's group whose purpose was to develop programs, provide civil war re-enactments, educationational documentaries, and
fund-raisers for youth.

The Buffalo Soldiers of the Arizona Territory - Ladies and Gentlemen of the Regiment was very honored of the support from John Ford (Johnny) Smith, II and Laura Causey Smith (wife) attended the 1st Annual Formal Buffalo Soldiers Ball Dinner, Mesa Historical Museum, Mesa, AZ, Saturday, October 17, 2009.
