This 1803 treaty with France extended the western U.S. boundary from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. Part or all of 15 states were later formed from this region. The village of St Charles, Missouri were very friendly to Captian Clark and his crew when they arrived on May 16, 1804. Captain Lewis joined the party in St. Charles on May 20, 1804 and then they proceeded up the river on May 21, 1804.
