Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > June 25, '08 - "Whimsical Note" Perception of what we see or maybe what we THINK we see may be greater than what's actually presented..... such as this unassuming photo of what could either be viewed as a poor man's feast or a rich man's indulgence. Do you see a delicious sampling of correctly seasoned ethnic fare or do you subconsciously count calories, worry about trans-fat and the unavoidable nightmares that will surely come from eating this late at night? Do you see the greasy, cheesy, spicy, "body putty" put before you on this flimsy paper plate or do you count the smiling faces or partial faces created by the various ingredients? (of which I've counted five so far) This logic can also translate into our personal lives. Do you see the rear-end traffic accident that left your beautiful Toyota Camry with at least three or four thousand dollars worth of damage and at least a couple weeks of inconvienence as an unnecessary intrusion into your comfort zone and at the VERY least a nightmare that will probably increase your insurance rates even though the accident wasn't your fault? Or do you see the accident as another example of divine intervention because if it weren't for God's protective hand you and your two year old daughter could easily be getting acquainted with the local county morgue or at the VERY least be spending an unplanned vacation in our city's finest hospital? It all depends on your point of view.......... (My wife Melody and my two year old daughter Brooklyn were rear-ended by a careless young driver this afternoon. Thankfully, all involved were uninjured and I have the luxery tonight of speculating on a whimsical note as I try to focus on the good that came out of it - namely my two 'girls' that I can still hug and kiss on - and not have to be writing an obituary instead.....)

My friend Mike has a potential buyer for this land deed from 1859 signed by President James Buchanan and wanted a photo of it to send to the buyer. I know it's not necessarily "art", but I thought it was unique enough to post on my photo of the day. (BTW: I didn't post the full document for obvious reasons. )
