Twelve years old and she still can't resist rolling around in the springtime grass. :-))
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 21, '08 - "Head Over Heels"

"Color emerges triumphantly in the afternoon sun.
Coy petals teasingly open just enough
to intrigue passersby
and hypnotize those willing to take the time
to gaze at this incredible work of art.
Never underestimate the power of a single color
or, better yet, two striking colors
that definitely compliment each other.
The effect is mesmerizing as you try rationalizing
the inordinate amount of time you've spent
gazing at and contemplating that which is before you.
Sheepishly you look around to see if anyone has seen
the glow on your face as you race to quickly compose yourself
and try to keep from smiling like a schoolgirl
who's just realized for the first time
that she's fallen head over heels
for the guy she's been studiously trying to ignore
since their first day together in kindergarten." - Rick Orrell
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 20, '08 - "The Snow Of Winters Past"

"Electric charged soft drink
glows luminously
as passive eyes stare
searching for the hidden revelation
that is never unlocked
but is buried amid thoughts and memories
of laughter and tears
from years gone by
and moments that seem light years away
but in reality were just seconds ago
in the snow of winters past." - Rick Orrell

(Sorry for the rambling, stream-of-thought caption today - we had the retirement party for our former owners of the store at which I work, and I'm still trying to process my mixed feelings of joy for their accomplishment and reward for a long career, and my profound sadness at losing the leadership and strength of character they provided for so many years. It's been a privilege working for you, Charlie and Mary Lou Hoag!)
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 19, '08 - "Cyclops In The Piggy Bank At Target"

Let's see, my reflection in this piggy bank looks like Cyclops and the camera reflection combined with my hand looks like a smiling robot face. There's got to be a metaphor in there somewhere.....

:-))
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 18, ''08 - "Priceless"

Cost of gas to get to the convienence store: $1.00

Cost of the Super Deluxe ice-cream sandwich: $1.59

Messy mouth, but sparkling eyes with a huge grin: PRICELESS!
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 17, '08 - "Feast Or Famine"

"Dried mud on the leaves from the recent flooding
but split and cracking, brittle on the ground.
The heavenly and the profane
try to strike a tenuous peace accord
in the midst of everything else that doesn't make sense." - Rick Orrell

Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 16, '08 - "Aroma Of Contentment"

"Sun-starved flora open up their blooms
and bask in the warm rays
of the afternoon glow.
If you look closely you can see them growing,
millimeter by millimeter.
If you listen closely you can hear them singing,
chorus after chorus.
If you breathe deeply you can smell their fragrance,
rich but subtle.
If you gently touch their fragile petals,
you will feel the carpet of heaven.
Walk among them and enjoy their celebration,
sit near them and exult in their parade of color,
close your eyes and revel in the sheer ecstasy
of the aroma of contentment." - Rick Orrell

Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 15, '08 - "Under The Current"

"Tumbling and turning
inside out and upside down
caught in the current
and at the mercy of the flow.
But in my mind's eye
I see the One who calms waves and quiets the wind
and He is standing on the very thing
that's about to consume my existence.
Calmly and cooly, He extends a welcome hand
and lifts me to the surface
where I breathe in Peace
and exhale worry and stress.
Just the touch of His hand
stops my trembling
and eliminates the possibility of drowning." - Rick Orrell

Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 14, '08 - "Too Fast"

Time is going by too fast, like someone has hit the fast forward button by mistake. Where did the little boy go that I used to sing to sleep at night? What happened to the toddler I used to feed Cheerios in the mornings? Don't get me wrong, I love my life and God has blessed me so much, but I've got to find a way to slow things down a little bit. I'm afraid I'll go to sleep tonight and wake up tomorrow to find him out on his own, making his own way, living his own life, making his own decisions........... but, wait, isn't that what he was put on this earth to do? And isn't it my job to help prepare him for that future?

I'm glad I got to hug him today and remind him how much his Daddy loves him! Hopefully I'll make wise use of the time I have with him........
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 13, '08 - "Buds To The End"

I had the opportunity to shoot pics of my friend Ted Brown's family today. My son Jaimey is also pretty close to their boys, Drake and Dariyon. Jaimey 'helped' me set up for the shoot, so I also got a pic of him and his friends. :-))
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 12, '08 - "Pink Peacock"

Pretty as a pink peacock
primping and preening pompously
past poor people
pretending to pay attention.
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 11, '08 - "Prickly Stem"

"The prickly stem gives pause to those
who try to do more
than just SMELL a rose!" - Rick Orrell
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 10, '08 - "Sensory-Overload Extravaganza"

"Beneath the light of spring's full moon
I smell the sweet fragrance
and savor the delicious color
of nature's sensory-overload extravaganza." - Rick Orrell

Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 09, '08 - "Neon Crown"

"This neon crown shall one day fade
and riches soon will crumble
but my reward's already paid
as long as I stay humble." - Rick Orrell

(Underneath macro of a gerbera daisy)
Rick Orrell (Ricardo38) > April 08, 08 - "Blue Bayou"

Not grapes, though they grow in a cluster
not bells, though they're open on the bottom
not berries, though they're blue and look delicious
just dainty little blooms to tease us with the coming explosion of spring color.
