I was planning a trip down to Florida to visit Artur Morris for a week of photographing. He very kindly offered to send me a Lowepro Pro Roller bag x200. He said when he sent it that maybe I could do a product review on it. I have now used that bag for over a year and feel that I can give an honest review of the bag and comment on it's functionality and durability. I would recommend the Lowepro Pro Roller x200 bag to anyone with similar gear that travels as I do. I cannot comment on the other bags in the series as I have not used any of them.

The Lowepro Pro Roller Series comes in 3 sizes x100/ x200/ x300.
I have the x200 and I like it a lot. It is well built and fits easily in the overhead compartments of all full size airplanes. I have traveled extensively with it for a year and have not had any problems fitting it into the overhead compartments, however when you are traveling on smaller planes it doesn’t fit and you are usually asked to check it at the gate. Always be prepared to do that. Have your case packed properly and securely so that you do not need to worry about your gear if it needs to be checked at the gate. I also wait at the gate and personally hand it to the luggage loader myself, stating that it is very sensitive gear and asking if they could not place it on the bottom of the pile :) The bag also comes with a 3-digit combination lock that has a retractable cable which connects all of the zippers on the case universally. The lock is recognized and accepted by TSA (Transportation Security Administration).

There are removable padded spacers and dividers inside of the case that have Velcro grips which can easily be moved around to accommodate your varied lenses etc. These dividers can also be removed, that is what I did with many of them in order to fit my Canon EF 500mm f/4.0 L IS USM Lens. I first pack my 500mm lens with the lens hood turned around and the original lens cover on. Then I pack the rest of my gear which includes: Canon 1D Mark III, Canon 5D, Canon 100-400mm lens, Canon 24-105mm lens, The 1.4 and 2x Teleconverters, Better Beamer, flash, flash bracket, filters, misc. items. The bag comes with a small zippered case which I use to put all my extra camera batteries and flash batteries in, I pack that in my regular checked bag along with my Gitzo GT3530LS Tripod/ and Wimberley Head Version II.

The bag is well constructed. The side supports are strong and I have not seen any indication of wear and tear. The roller wheels are sturdy and I have not had any issues with them falling off, wobbling or breaking but they can easily be replaced with a 4mm Allen wrench. The outside material is durable and sleek it also repels water although it is not waterproof. The bag features an outside padded compartment that is designed to hold most 15.4 inch notebooks.

Reflectors

PROMASTER SystemPro 5 in 1 (32") Reflector kit

The difference between a good or bad image often depends on the lighting. Poor lighting or insufficient lighting can affect the overall appeal of the final image. There are many techniques that are used by photographers to utilize the light to their advantage; One of the most versatile, inexpensive and convenient ways is with the use of light reflectors.

Reflectors do exactly what they say they do, they reflect light. They are most often used to add light to shadowed areas, add a catch light to a subject and to even out the available lighting. Available light or ambient light usually refers to any natural light source. Another use for reflectors would be to diffuse or soften harsh light.
The most obvious place to try out a reflector is outside but they are also used for indoor shooting. I like to use the reflectors when I am photographing inside my home near a sliding glass door or window and the available light is from the side. I often find that a flash is not needed if I use a reflector.
I am always set up on a tripod when using a reflector and I use my camera’s timer or a remote since I am usually holding the reflector with my hand. You can purchase things such as the The Manfrotto/Bogen RH353 Reflector holder or the Wimberley Plamp which can be very useful tools. Hunts Photo and Video carries a large selection of holders and gadgets.

Make sure that when you are positioning your reflector that it is actually reflecting the light where you want it. It is important to experiment with the positioning until you get the desired lighting. Your goal is to have nice even lighting on your subject without any shadows.

Don't get caught with the wrong reflector. The PROMASTER SystemPro 5 in 1 (32") Reflector kit gives you five of the most popular collapsible reflectors used in the photography industry today all in one convenient package. You'll have gold, sunlight, silver, white, and translucent - all at your fingertips - in one easy-to-use zippered container.

White Opaque - Produces an even, neutral-colored reflected light that works as a fill light. Can be used both indoors and outdoors.
Silver - Silver increases the highlights with a bright and whiter reflection which creates a higher contrast look.
Gold – Works the same as the silver filter but with a warming tone that is more subtle. Recommended use is outdoors with very early or late sunlight.
White Translucent - Softens harsh light sources, may also be used as a soft diffuser.
Black – Does the opposite of reflect, it absorbs light. Black can be used to diffuse harsh sunlight.
18% Grey Panel included to aid in exposure and color balance.

I'd like to thank Gary from Hunts Photo and Video for supplying me with the PROMASTER SystemPro 5 in 1 (32") Reflector kit so that I could do this review.

My overall review for this product is:
EASY TO USE
LIGHTWEIGHT
COLLAPSIBLE
CONVENIENT
STURDY CONSTRUCTION
WELL MADE
INEXPENSIVE
VERSATILE
DOES WHAT IT IS SUPPOSE TO DO :)
JUST THE RIGHT SIZE
MY NEW FAVORITE TOOL!

The company also makes a 12" reflector that is compact and easy to carry around. They each have two sides and come in an assortment of colors for the lighting that best suits your needs. It is great for those up-close shots and best of all they retail for $14.99 from Hunts Photo and Video.

I have been in the market for an ultra light super compact tripod that would fit easily into my suitcase or backpack. At the Mid Atlantic Photo Expo Gitzo had a display model of their The Traveler Tripod GT1542T . I picked it up immediately and knew that this was the one I wanted. It was very compact, lightweight- made of carbon fiber and it will be a great addition to my travel gear. I always hesitate to bring a second tripod when I travel because I never seem to have enough room. However I always need to have an extra tripod so that I don’t have to remove my Wimberley Head Version II (that usually has my 500mm lens attached to it) and attach my ballhead each time I spot a landscape or macro scene, which seems to be all the time:). Below are the specs form the company.

The Traveler Tripod is the most compact professional tripod on the market. It is the right solution for photographers looking for lightweight and compactness in pure state in a professional tripod, when traveling (and flying) is a common practice. In order to achieve this “magic,” Gitzo developed a unique patented 180º folding mechanism that gets rid of any space inefficiency in the support system. The head is now accommodated inside the folded tripod legs and this makes it the smallest folded tripod for its open size and number of sections. Matching this compactness with the sturdiness of lightweight carbon fiber and good speed in setup makes the Traveler the ultimate tripod. All Traveler tripods feature the Ground Level Set that allows for low shooting positions and further weight savings. This position is achieved by fixing the head and/or disc (included) directly to the tripod top casting, thus eliminating the center column. The included aluminum upper disc features a Safe Lock, which cuts vibrations and improves the grip between tripod and head. Traveler tripods come with a convenient anti dust bag for storage and packing. The textile anti dust bag is also an answer to environmental protection, aiming to reduce the amount of plastic bags that the world indplastic bags that global industry is introducing into the environment each day.

GT1542T tripod combines the compactness and light weight of the Gitzo Traveler System with the stability and size of a regular Mountaineer Series 1 tripod. It is dedicated to the high-end user seeking for a highly portable support with no compromise.

Gary Farber from Hunts Video and Photo asked me if I had a Hoodman HoodLoupe when I told him I did not he said he would bring one with him to the Expo for me. We agreed that if I liked the Loupe I would write a review on it if I didn’t then I would send it back to him in the original package which we both agreed would be fair. At the end of my Nature Visions Expo I told folks that as photographers we may be asked to put our names on a product or promote a product for goods or money. You should always only promote stuff that you use and like. That is a good piece of advice that I got from my friend Arthur Morris when I was first being approached by sponsors. I follow that advice happily. I have always wanted to try a Hoodman Hood Loupe since the very first time I saw one. I thought that they might be useful. I don’t wear or need glasses but the glare from shooting at the beach can sometimes be a pain and for that reason I had considered one. A friend of mine has one and loves it. Well there isn’t much not to love. It covers the LCD screen on the back of your camera which allows for glare free viewing of your images. You turn the eyepiece just like you were adjusting your binoculars. I have heard some folks say that the loupe covers too much space on the back of their camera and hits some of the buttons. I am not seeing this as an issue for me. It comes with a neck strap and case ( I will probably never use the case). I don’t intend to bring this to Eastern State Penitentiary or Longwood Gardens or even on the Barnegat Jetty but I do intend to bring it to Florida and I plan on using it at Nickerson Beach all season long. At the end of the summer season I will be giving a more detailed evaluation of my experiences with the loupe :) . If you are having trouble seeing the back of your camera and viewing your histogram then I think that this is a good solution. It is priced at $79.99 which is kind of steep but I guess in the high price world of photography it is relative.
Product Description:
HoodLoupe 3.0™ Professional is worn around your neck just like a normal loupe. When it is time to review your shot; bring Hoodloupe up to your image and place your eye up to the eye cup for complete glare free viewing. HoodLoupe3.0 has a +/-3 diopter to accommodate those with less than perfect vision.
HoodLoupe3.0 adjusts focus just like a binocular eye piece… you turn the eye piece in or out to set for your vision. Minimal magnification is used to eliminate visual pixelization of your image. Each HoodLoupe3.0 is encased in a user friendly rubber for comfort and protection from bumps that will occur throughout your shoot. Comfortable lanyard and compact protective storage case included.
Fits up to 3.0 inch LCD screens.

The LensCoat RainCoat, shown in Max4 camouflage pattern

Two years ago I co-lead a workshop for Arthur Morris at Nickerson Beach in August. Anyone familiar with the East Coast in August knows that it is close to hurricane season. There is still plenty of activity at Nickerson during the month of August but we did meet with plenty of rainy conditions. I was using a plastic bag that blew around like crazy in the wind; this is not a good option when you don't want to scare your subjects away. That February I also co-lead an IPT (Instructional Photo Tour) for Arthur Morris in Southwest Florida--it rained several times. My gear was taking a beating. One of the guys co-leading the tour had his camera body ruined from all the rain. I was shooting with my 1D Mark III and though the pro bodies by Canon are supposed to be water resistant they do not guarantee or replace them due to water damage. Several clients had the LensCoat RainCoats covering their expensive long lenses and they had no problems with the water effecting their gear. The RainCoats by LensCoat cover the entire lens and camera body. I checked into getting one after my return from Florida. Thanks to LensCoat for making such a great product, I recommend the RainCoat to anyone wishing to keep their lens and camera body dry or free from salt spray. The RainCoat is constructed from a lightweight waterproof, breathable poly tricot material. Available in Black, Green, Navy, and Realtree Max4, Realtree AP Snow, Digital Camo and Forest Green camouflage pattern. The seams are tape sealed for maximum protection. The next time I go out for multiple days you can bet I won't leave home without my RainCoat.

The SpiderPro Single Camera System is a great way to have your camera at your finger tips without the fuss of a strap. I like the quick release and the locking system that they have used to make this holster. The sturdy well made system uses a pin to connect to your camera and I recommend that you tighten it down with a wrench to make sure it is secure. It fits comfortably on my hip and lets me be hands free. I like that I don't have a strap over my shoulder. When carrying my 500mm lens on a tripod having the holster for my second body is much more comfortable then having it strapped to my neck. The company offers a dual holster for carrying two cameras at the same time. (I don't know anything about that though)Visit Spider Camera Holster's website to see a quick video clip and to learn more about these great holsters. I do still have and use my Black Rapids RS-7 Strap that I love so much. I am using it when I carry my 100-400mm lens and my 24-105mm lens which seems to be very often.
The SpiderPro Single Camera System is the one I chose because it handles my Canon 100-400mm lens safely and easily. As a nature photographer having quick easy access to your camera makes a world of difference. I know that Outdoor Photo Gear has the SpiderPro available. Again I make no $$ from this endorsement. I just love this holster and I have added it to my gear list so I thought that I would pass on the info.

I recently contacted Lowepro and requested an Event Messenger 150. When I first saw this bag I knew that it would be exactly what I was looking for. It keeps my lenses and accessories separated and organized. It has a comfortable shoulder strap that adjusts perfectly to fit across my shoulder. I can fit my new Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 24-105mm lens, 100mm macro lens, Canon 15mm fisheye lens and an assortment of accesories. It has a separate compartment for your iPad to slip into. Under the front flap is a zippered compartment. There are velcro grippers that can be used for a more secure closing or they can be covered quickly for easy access to the inside. A water bottle fits on the outside of the bag in an upright position! The best part is you can be shooting and easily change out your lens without having to put down your bag (that is a feature that I have always wanted in a bag). Durable and lightweight, the exterior is made of Oxford Nylon. It comes in three sizes, the 250, 150 and 100. Check out Lowepro's site to see which size is right for you. Use code LP20, so they know I sent you.
Size(Interior):
Size: 11.6W X 3.9D X 8.6H in., Weight: 1.4lbs/0.6kg, Fits: DSLR with attached lens, 2-3 extra lenses (up to 70-200mm f/2.8) or a flash and 2 lenses, iPad, Accessories and personal items
