The Lockheed PV-1 Ventura Bomber #49467 crashed in the Sierra Pelona Mountains on 2/24/44 during a snowstorm while on a test flight before delivery from the Lockheed plant in Burbank to Palmdale. All four of the crew on board were killed in this accident.
A Cessna 210 N9460T crashed in the same canyon 27 years later on 5/30/71.

This is the same area I found the Howard DGA last week.
Cows were back on the road. Had to drive around them as most of them wouldn't get off the road.
This is where I parked hoping that it was the area the two crash sites were located. The info on this one was a little vague.
Saw this from where I parked. It's the frame from a burned out trailer home and ???.
Had to check this thing out. It has a steel frame and cement cover. Strange, ???
Climbing up the little hill from where I parked, I found this plaque on top.
This is what I was looking for. Found the right place. The plaque was from the pilot's wife, it reads. "2/24/44 PV1 Ventura Bomber, test pilot George Gould Dory, The wings of God took up this flight, So long My Guy, Martha 5/27/44".
Zoomed in on the Palmdale Airport from the hill. The PV-1 was heading for it. Another 50' higher and they would have made it. The area was covered in fog at the time.
This is the crash site of the PV-1. Reports said that the plane was buried.
