This photo shows Chad and his friends Nathan Oliver, Sean Whalen and me, Rocco Bonello. We are in front of the waterfall near the famed "Stairway Portage" at Rose Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe area.

Chad visited Rose Lake in Boy Scouts, and really wanted to show me and my wife Meg how beautiful it was when we took our first Autumn BWCA trip in 2003.

2 days of rain nearly spoiled the trip, but Sunday morning the clouds broke and Chad led us to the waterfall, to a scenic overlook, and to the shores of a lake that proved to be even more beautiful than Chad had foretold.

On October 7, 2006 a portion of Chad's cremains will be buried at an overlook high above Rose Lake. A fact that makes me simultaneously sad, proud and jealous.

This is a photo of Chad with a girls soccer team he coached in about 1999-2000.

It was my daughters team that had a coach lined up, but it turned out that his daughter was too old for that bracket, and Chad stepped forward to coach this team at North West Como Rec Center.

He was great with the girls, they loved him. Jenny to this day remembers Chad as her coach. As we all know he touched everyone in a very positive way.

Barb and I participated in an iron pour in Herman, Mn. to make cast iron sculpture.

Chad decided to drive all the way out to check it out and camp a night. Barb and I remember feeling flattered that he would drive so far just to hang out with us at something he wasn't even participating in.

He had just gotten his Wolfsburg edition VW Jetta though and was probably itching for a road trip. He gave us a test ride. We had it up over 100 mph on the long, straight and flat roads of farm country.

This still was taken from a video shot in the Boundary Waters in August 2006.

Chad was directed to over-dramatically wave goodbye as Tom Martell, Steve Schumacher and I paddled away from camp and back to our cars.

Chad joked that when the video would eventually be shown, "there won't be a dry eye in the house." I thought it was quite funny at the time.

When it finally was shown, at Sgt Pepper's for Chad's funeral get-together, I couldn't help but notice he was right.

Chad was my big brother, older than me by 4 years, and my strongest memories of him, from even when we were very young, always had me looking up to him and striving to be more like him. He loved soccer, so I did too. He was a German exchange student in High School, so I did the same. He studied abroad in Europe during College, so of course I had to do that also.

I always admired the carefree lifestyle he had. I wanted to have an eclectic taste in music like he did, a knowledge of every great hangout in the Twin Cities, and I always wanted to get a VW Jetta like the one he used to have! He and I shared a strong passion for travel, and a great love for the outdoors. It was rare that more than a few days would pass without us exchanging emails or text messages.

Since my husband Rocco DJ'd almost every wedding I've attended in the past 6 years, more often than not, Chad was my default "date."

While Rocco and I set up the DJ equipment, Chad would always save us a spot next to him for dinner.

During dinner, Chad and I would make our usual trade: my meat for his salad/veggies.

Then, we'd hit the dance floor.

He'd dance with all the ladies (aunties, moms, grandmas, friends, sisters, daughters, bridesmaids) or sometimes he'd be out there all by himself. He had the moves and knew the words to every song.

At the end of the night, long after the lights would come on and everyone had said their goodbyes, Chad would be there, waiting to help us break everything down and load the car. He didn't have to, but he was always there ready to help.

Chad and I both have December birthdays, so we always celebrate together.

This picture is from one of my favorites--my 50th. Chad was so excited to surprise me with pink roses.

This is our last family photo--taken at Chad's sister Steph's wedding.

It was shot just a few weeks before Chad passed away.

He was so proud, and we were all so excited. This will always be a special memory for our loving family.

This is a picture of Chad and I on "Ride the Slide" in 1991. It reminds me a lot of my relationship with my big brother. He was always right behind watching over me. I felt lucky to have a big brother like him.

Chad and I were always really close growing up despite a 10 year age gap. When I was younger, Chad would babysit me and we would watch cartoons or play legos together. Even when I got older Chad and I still continued to hang out. We would play soccer together, go to a Twins game or download music together.

He thought I had a "weird" music taste, but he never did delete my music from his computer.

Chad was never afraid to hangout with me or take me anywhere. I remember going with him when he bought his VW Jetta. We test drove it along with a VW Beetle because I wanted to ride in one and since I wasn't old enough to drive Chad did the honors.

I remember when Chad invited me to his open house at WCL Associates. He was so proud to be working there and was excited to have family show up. He really enjoyed his career!

A couple of winters ago, I kept asking Chad for his grey "Shorty's" hat. I really wanted it and he told me I could have it once we found him a new one. We replaced it with a black "Target Market" hat but he didn't like how it said "Target Market" so we had to take out the stitching. One of Chad's favorite quotes was "Less is More" which was very true when it came to him.

I know Chad isn't present with us, but I still feel his presence everyday watching over me.
