"THE MAYOR AND HIS DOG" by Clyde "Ross" Morgan

"My dear old dog, most constant of all friends." ~ William Croswell Doane

It's February already; time is flying!

Here's a sculpture of Mayor Herbert "Herb" Drinkwater and his dog, Sadie. In June of 2002, Morgan was selected from a group of four national finalists to create a larger than life-size bronze sculpture of Scottsdale’s late Mayor Herb Drinkwater. The sculpture was completed in 2003 and funded by private donations. This work was dedicated and installed on May 10, 2003 in the Scottsdale Cultural Park in honor of Drinkwater's 24 years of service to Scottsdale.

I honestly appreciate you taking time to peruse and comment on my "Da Boot" photo yesterday. It would be impossible to walk a mile in a pair of those, huh:)?

It's hump day; have a wonderful Wednesday.

"YELLOW ROSE"

"Be a rose which gives fragrance, even to those who crush it. ~ Author Unknown

SOOC comes this yellow rose of...........Arizona, and not Texas:)!

According to history, yellow is a bright, sunny color that evokes a feeling of warmth and happiness. Akin to those shared with a true friend are the warm feelings associated with the yellow rose. It is also an ideal symbol for joy and friendship, in contrast to the romantic meanings attributed to other roses. Additionally, yellow roses can send the perfect message of appreciation and platonic love without the romantic subtext of other colors. Joy and delight are representative of the color yellow and an ideal way to brighten someone's day who may be feeling down. Finally, a yellow rose can bring out the smile in quite a way that no other flower can.

I sure do thank you all for your comments; they are very much appreciated.

Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday.

"CITY HALL"

"Thank God every morning when you get up that you have something to do which must be done, whether you like it or not. Being forced to work, and forced to do your best, will breed in you a hundred virtues which the idle never know." ~ Charles Kingsley

I was surprised and humbly elated that my "Yellow Rose" photo landed in the #1 spot yesterday. Thanks a million for taking time to peruse and comment on my photos; it has never gone unnoticed or unappreciated.

The distinctive Scottsdale City Hall was designed by architect Bennie Gonzales in 1968, and was designed with an interior kiva for community meetings.

When I uploaded this photo, I was unaware of Sciangetti (Kim's) challenge; however, I am looking forward to seeing all of the creative photos submitted for the challenge today.

TGIF!! Have a funtagious Friday and a safe weekend.

"DAY BRIGHTENER"

"And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." ~ Anais Nin

I spotted this cluster of yellow flowers petruding out as we were leaving the area near the Scottsdale City Hall. I never stopped walking, just slowed up a bit to take a quick pic.

There are not enough days in the weekend, but I hope everyone is having a great Saturday.

UPDATE at 12:06 pm: Thanks to papamugger for identifying the name of these bright delights as Esperanzas.

"COURTYARD"

"A moment's insight is sometimes worth a life's experience." ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

My real job has been keeping me extremely busy lately. Yesterday, I realized that I have not picked up my camera and taken a picture since January 31, 2012. I'm not complaining; it is a blessing to have a job during these difficult economic times. So, here's another photo from the Arizona files. It's a SOOC shot of the Four Seasons Resort's courtyard - no special effects; camera was set to auto; flash fired, and to my amazement, this is what it produced.

I appreciate your comments on yesterday's Stargazers. It's hump day; enjoy a wonderful Wednesday.

"STARGAZERS"

"Pretty in pink," and they smelled heavenly! ~ Godschild (moi)

According to history, "The meaning of these fragrant flowers can be one of wealth and prosperity. One of the most stunning and perhaps most celebrated lily varieties is the stargazer lily . Known for its striking blooms and heavenly scent, the stargazer is a fantastic choice for a number of occasions. Delicate, bold, and fragrant all at once, stargazers can say Congratulations, I'm Sorry, and everything in between."

Furthermore, "Of the many different lilies that are available today, the stargazer lily is one of the true stand-outs. Its spectacular blooms, which can range in color from pure white to the more familiar shades of deep pink, can make a definite impression. Its dazzling appearance and seductive scent has resulted in a flower that can really make an entrance."

" 'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS"

"The joy of brightening other lives, bearing each others’ burdens, easing other’s loads and supplanting empty hearts and lives with generous gifts becomes for us the magic of Christmas.” ~ W. C. Jones

SOOC (other than the frames), uncropped

Christmas Eve..........

I'm sure everyone's stockings are hung by the chimney with care, gifts are wrapped and under the tree, the aroma from Christmas dinner fills the air, and chestnuts are roasting by an open fire. My plans are to sit by the fireplace and watch Christmas movies, listen to Christmas music, and sip (hot cocoa, that is) while I sit.

The frames were created with Picnik. Unfortunately, the picnik is over. As announced earlier, Picnik closed on April 19, 2012.

Tomorrow is Christmas; don't forget He (Jesus) is the reason for the season.

Have a marvelous Monday.

"DELIGHT OF LIGHTS"

"To the American People: Christmas is not a time or a season but a state of mind. To cherish peace and good will, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas. If we think on these things, there will be born in us a Savior and over us will shine a star sending its gleam of hope to the world.” ~ Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933), American president. Presidential message (December 25, 1927).

Thanks for your comments on yesterday's photo and the suggestion that it should be a contender for our 2013 Chrismas card. It landed in the #2 spot for the day. A few times, it was in the #1 spot, although Mcdonegal's photo (which was #1) still had more comments; and I still considered mine #2. Anyway, I'd also like to thank those who found some of my former daily posts and commented on them; thus, causing them to reappear in the dailies.

"DAN ARMSTRONG"

"If music be the food of love, play on." ~ William Shakespeare

SOOC, here's my contribution to Paula's (Paula & Chuck Beehner) "shadow challenge." It just so happened that I had uploaded this photo after we returned from Arizona as my today's post of the day. This was also both my and our youngest son's favorite guitar!! Made of acrylic, this electric guitar model is commonly known as "the see-through" guitar." It was made my Ampeg. According to its official website, "MIM offers a shared experience of the history of musical instruments throughout the world. Guests are given wireless headsets to wear throughout the museum. As they approach each display, they can hear the instruments being played, either solo or as an ensemble. Audio and video clips familiarize guests with the unique sounds of each musical culture, allowing them to share a common experience."

Additionally, "On the first floor, exhibits are organized by themes. The Orientation Gallery introduces guests to the astonishing variety of instruments, the ways music has been shaped by interaction and exchange, and the dazzling artistry of handcrafted instruments from around the world. On the second floor, instruments are organized by geography, across these five major regions of the world: Africa / Middle East, Asia / Oceania, Latin America and the Caribbean/, United States / Canada, and Europe."

"DEBUTANTE STAR"

"Music happens to be an art form that transcends language." ~ Herbie Hancock

First of all, I am so very appreciative of your comments regarding the "Dragon Double Neck" guitar photo yesterday. There were some awesome musical instruments in the museum, but I decided to share one more guitar. You will be seeing some of the other instruments in future posts.

This "atomic pink" guitar is the prototype for the Debutante Star series. It was manufactured by and is on loan courtesy of Daisy Rock Guitars. View the entire gallery of instruments here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/20695213_KWXXzb#!i=1656910489&k=gxfFvzK
