"MECHANICAL- ACTION PIPE ORGAN"

"Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness." ~ Maya Angelou

Made by Michael Rathke, all interior and exterior mechanical and tone-producing portions are visible. Also, it has 183 pipes. Additionally, it is made of white oak, walnut, Douglas fir, poplar, ash, holly, and ebony woods, lead, tin, aluminum, brass, and iron.

According to its official website, "MIM offers a shared experience of the history of musical instruments throughout the world. The space is bright and open, providing guests with a warm and comfortable environment. Guests are given wireless headsets to wear throughout the museum. As they approach each display, they can hear the instruments being played, either solo or as an ensemble. Audio and video clips familiarize guests with the unique sounds of each musical culture, allowing them to share a common experience."

Additionally, "On the first floor, exhibits are organized by themes. The Orientation Gallery introduces guests to the astonishing variety of instruments, the ways music has been shaped by interaction and exchange, and the dazzling artistry of handcrafted instruments from around the world. On the second floor, instruments are organized by geography, across these five major regions of the world: Africa / Middle East, Asia / Oceania, Latin America and the Caribbean/, United States / Canada, and Europe."

"PEDAL HARPSICHORD"

"The wise musicians are those who play what they can master." ~ Duke Ellington

This instrument's elaborately painted case is possibly of 18th-century Viennese origin. An important American keyboard innovator, John Challis was famous for his pedal harpsichords. I love the gorgeous floral designs and the unique shape of this one. This was a really "quick snap" of this instrument because it attracted the attention of several tourists all at once and they began to head in its direction.

According to its official website, "MIM offers a shared experience of the history of musical instruments throughout the world. The space is bright and open, providing guests with a warm and comfortable environment. Guests are given wireless headsets to wear throughout the museum. "VESTIDO DE BAILE FLAMENCO"
(flamenco dress)

"Being a woman does not automatically make one a lady." ~ Unknown Author

If you are ever in the area, visiting this museum is a "no-brainer." It's two floors of awesomeness! Obviously not an instrument, but this black and red dress was on display with accessories. This dress was either made in or sent from Andalusia, Spain (2009).

"XORGAN"

"If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music." ~ Gustav Mahler

Despite its compact size, this is one of the loudest instruments in the MIM's mechanical music collection.

"APOLLONIA"

"Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music." ~ Angela Monet

SOOC, I saved the best for last. This instrument, in my opinion, was the "Crème de la Crème" of them all. It was also among my favorites and in no way unnoticeable. Humongous in size and statue, this mechanized Apollonia dance organ is among the largest in the world and was made in 1926 in Belgium. Measuring over 25-feet long and weighing over two tons, this dance organ was originally manufactured as organ no. 1002 by the preeminent Antwerp firm of Theofiel Mortier, S.A. It was remanufactured into its present configuration by another famous Antwerp company, Gebroeders DeCap, in 1950. It was imported into the United States by an American collector.

 On another note...........

Whitney Elizabeth Houston's private, invitation-only funeral is today at New Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey, where Houston first showed off her singing talents as a child. Grammy award-winning gospel singer Marvin Winans (the pastor who married Houston and Bobby Brown in 1992) will deliver the eulogy. It is scheduled to begin at noon and will likely run 90 minutes. Fans will be able to view a live stream of the service on the Web. After the service, Houston will be buried at the Fair View Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, where her father was buried in 2003. Houston, 48, was found dead February 11, 2012 in her Beverly Hilton hotel room. A cause of death has yet to be determined. My prayers are with her family.

"Be kind; for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." ~ Plato

Have a safe weekend.

"I am often accused of being childish. I prefer to interpret that as child-like. I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things. I tend to exaggerate and fantasize and embellish. I still listen to instinctual urges. I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind. I never water my garden without soaking myself." ~ Leo F. Buscaglia

Although not the best composition or overall capture of this larger than life fake cookie, I wanted to share it anyway. What are the four C's associated with this photo? Chocolate chip cookie, and calories (of course).
