"LIGHT & SHADOWS"

"In faith, there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don't." ~ Blaise Pascal

Initially, the shadows captured my attention, and thereafter the lines, shapes, glass, textures, reflections, and the bright lime green. Needless to say, the area is full of interesting patterns, architecture, landscape, water, sculptures, etc. It's a great place to explore.

Thanks for all of your comments on my photos. There are always outstanding posts in this community, and I never take for granted that you take the time to peruse and comment on mine.

Have a safe and fun Saturday!

"PALMS"

"Reach for the sky because if you should happen to miss, you'll still be among the stars." ~ Unknown Author

Ever since seeing Lgood's Punta Cana, Dominican Republic palm tree (taken April, 2006), I've been inspired to capture a similar scene. I looked up and saw these palm trees against that beautiful blue sky..........my "Aha" moment! The Mesa Arts Center area is full of interesting patterns, architecture, water sculptures, etc. It's a great place to explore.

The weekend flew by and now I'm ready to get busy with the new week. Thanks for the comments on my photos. I feel honored that you take the time to peruse and comment.

Be blessed and share the rest!

"UNTITLED" by Anna Skibska

"Art is the window to man's soul. Without it, he would never be able to see beyond his immediate world; nor could the world see the man within." ~ Claudia Johnson

This work of art was hanging near the entrance of the arts center. It was installed in 2006. The sculptures explore the dichotomy between line and form, light and shadow. "The 10 cocoonlike forms hang in a circle at various heights; they were inspired by England’s mysterious Stonehenge and represent the new millennium," Skibska says.

Friendly reminder: Billie Jean's "Abstract" challenge is Friday, March 9, 2012. I am so excited with anticipation about perusing all of the posts.

I genuinely appreciate your overwhelmingly kind comments on yesterday's "Palms" photo; it landed in the #2 spot. The Mesa Arts Center area is full of interesting patterns, architecture, water sculptures, etc. It's a great place to explore.

Happy Monday and have a great start to the week.

"Love is the best medicine, and there is more than enough to go around once you open your heart." ~ Julie Marie

Have a heart!

This human heart-themed, $120,000 hunk of hammered steel Harley Davidson bike, was created for Arizona’s pioneering cardiovascular surgeon Edward Diethrich. He is the founder and medical director of the Arizona Heart Institute. The bike will be used as a medical tool to ride to local classrooms in an effort to teach heart-healthy lessons.

Notice the coronary veins and capillaries. Additionally, the motorcycle sports some tools of the medical trade: a stent across the exhaust and an endoluminal graft on one of the exhaust pipes. It took two years to complete. It sure was my absolute favorite!!!!!

"SHELL MOTORCYCLE" by Lee Stoetzel

Lots of shells and lots of Elmo glue, you think:)?

SOOC, other than the border, comes an existing Suzuki motorcycle that has been covered with shells. By using natural elements like wood and shells, Stoetzel implies that the objects have either grown out of the landscape or been enveloped by it.

"Philadelphia artist Lee Stoetzel creates sculpture that replicates man-made objects by using natural materials like scrap wood and shells. He is interested in the inherent beauty of the materials as well as the juxtaposition between organic elements and manufactured forms. Typically, Stoetzel re-creates familiar objects from popular culture such as a Volkswagen bus, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a Jeep, books, and the original Apple computer.......each is life-size and made of a highly textured wood known as Pecky Cypress."
