"Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." ~ Berthold Auerbach

This museum hits high notes with me!!! "The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) was founded by Robert J. Ulrich, former CEO and chairman emeritus of Target Corporation. An avid collector of African art and a world museum enthusiast, Ulrich and his friend Marc Felix originated the idea for MIM after a visit to the Musical Instruments Museum in Brussels, Belgium. Their unique vision was to create a museum and collection that afford equal representation to the musical instruments and music of every country in the world. Using state-of-the-art audiovisual technology to show musical instruments being played in their original cultural context and delivering the sound of these instruments through high-quality headphones, MIM provides a one-of-kind experience to museum guests." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://www.themim.org/about/history-mission-leadership

Additionally, "MIM offers a shared experience of the history of musical instruments throughout the world. The space is bright and open, providing guests with a warm and comfortable environment. On the first floor, exhibits are organized by themes. The Orientation Gallery introduces guests to the astonishing variety of instruments, the ways music has been shaped by interaction and exchange, and the dazzling artistry of handcrafted instruments from around the world. On the second floor, instruments are organized by geography, across these five major regions of the world: Africa / Middle East, Asia / Oceania, Latin America and the Caribbean, United States / Canada, and Europe." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://themim.org/about. ~ 12/27/2011

"DAN ARMSTRONG"

"If music be the food of love, play on." ~ William Shakespeare

SOOC, here's my contribution to Paula's (Paula & Chuck Beehner) "shadow challenge." It just so happened that I had uploaded this photo after we returned from Arizona as my today's post of the day. This was also both my and our youngest son's favorite guitar!! Made of acrylic, this electric guitar model is commonly known as "the see-through" guitar." It was made my Ampeg. According to its official website, "MIM offers a shared experience of the history of musical instruments throughout the world. Guests are given wireless headsets to wear throughout the museum. As they approach each display, they can hear the instruments being played, either solo or as an ensemble. Audio and video clips familiarize guests with the unique sounds of each musical culture, allowing them to share a common experience."

"20th ANNIVERSARY DRAGON DOUBLE NECK"

"Play the music, not the instrument." ~ Author Unknown

SOOC comes this prototype for a limited-edition model with over 850 individual inlays. Very pretty to me, it is made of mahogamy, maple, rosewood, mother-of-pearl, abalone, paua shell, fossilized mammoth ivory, orange spiny oyster shell, snakewood, ebony, gold, silver, and other metal. It was made by and is on loan courtesy of Paul Reed Smith Guitars. View the entire gallery of instruments here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/20695213_KWXXzb#!i=1656910489&k=gxfFvzK

"DEBUTANTE STAR"

"Music happens to be an art form that transcends language." ~ Herbie Hancock

First of all, I am so very appreciative of your comments regarding the "Dragon Double Neck" guitar photo yesterday. There were some awesome musical instruments in the museum, but I decided to share one more guitar. You will be seeing some of the other instruments in future posts.

This "atomic pink" guitar is the prototype for the Debutante Star series. It was manufactured by and is on loan courtesy of Daisy Rock Guitars. View the entire gallery of instruments here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/20695213_KWXXzb#!i=1656910489&k=gxfFvzK
