Howdy, Pardner!!!

My guys love Western and cowboy movies, so I planned a trip for them to visit this 1880's Western town. "Rawhide Western Town and Steakhouse" is celebrating 39 years of providing quality 1880's style family entertainment. This authentic frontier town is Arizona's largest western-themed attraction and has moved from Scottsdale to Wild Horse Pass on the Gila River Indian Community. Rawhide has a chuck wagon full of fun in store for you -- gunfights, stunt shows, shootin' gallery, rock climbing, stagecoach rides, desert train ride, burro rides, live country music, Sundown Cookouts, a real blacksmith, and much more. Browse the specialty shops with everything from authentic western wear to Native American art to handmade jewelry to cowboy toys." ~ Reprinted text from official website here: http://www.rawhide.com/about-us.html. ~ 12/28/2011

"COME AND GET IT"

"Don't be dismayed by goodbyes; a farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again is certain for those who are friends." ~ Richard Bach

First of all, thank you so very much for your comments on the "Humpty Dumpty" photo yesterday; it landed in the #1 spot. You all are so kind and I never take for granted that, in addition to posting outstanding shots of your own, you take the time to peruse and comment on mine.

Sculptor Snell Johnson's "Come and Get It" sculpture has greeted Rawhide visitors for years at the entrance of the Rawhide Western Town and Steakhouse in Chandler, AZ. The sculpture is a double life-size group of five pieces including two cowboys, two horses and a cowboy cook, plus kettles. It is owned by former Rawhide owner Jerry Hirsh.

Unfortunately, Johnson died in 2001, but his larger-than-life sculptures live on. Did you know that he also created the "Horse World" sculpture at the entrance of WestWorld of Scottsdale and the "MGM Grand Lion" in Las Vegas?

"Saddle up" and have a wonderful Wednesday, my friends.

NOTE: There were appoximately seven or eight comments showing up here and when I clicked on "Approve," all of them disappeared. Strange, huh?

"COVERED & UNCOVERED"

"A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road." ~ Henry Ward Beecher

UPDATE: Kudos to Barr61 for spotting my shadow at the lower left of this photo. I had never noticed:).

According to Wikipedia, "The covered wagon, also known as a Prairie schooner, is an icon of the American Old West. Covered wagons were primarily used to transport goods. Prairie schooner is a fanciful name for the covered wagon; the white canvas covers of the wagons crossing the prairies reminded some writers of the sails of a ship at sea.[1] Small children, the elderly, and the sick or injured rode in them, but since the wagons had no suspension and the roads were rough, many people preferred to walk, unless they had horses to ride."

"One covered wagon generally represented five people. A well-to-do family might have two or three wagons, or a group of single men traveling together might share a wagon. While crossing the plains, emigrants banded together to form wagon trains for mutual assistance and occasionally defense. The covered wagons and wagon trains were retired late before the era of cars and planes." ~ Reprinted texts from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covered_wagon

Hang in there; tomorrow is Friday!
