ktravers > We press on to the Piedmont, and another impressive landscape. After the beautiful seashore of the Ligurian coast and the dramatic hills of northern Liguria, the wine country of Piedmont is a remarkable change, and equally beautiful. Every inch is cultivated with grapes!

ktravers > We proceed to our destination of Canelli, via a road signed "Strada Moscati dAsti". Were not sure how we ended up on this particular road, but its beautiful enough! Its slow, too, proving its name by being teeming with slow-moving trucks filled with grapes. From Mango onward, were in quite the grape jam.

Not having realized the grape harvest would begin so soon, however, were delighted!

ktravers > Our destination, and home in Piedmont, is La Luna e I Falo. This lovely B&B is 2 km outside of the town of Canelli, up on a hill with stupendous views. Directions to La Luna were not clear, but we point ourselves in the direction of the hill, and end up finding our way easily enough.

ktravers > Franco, the proprieter, greets us warmly, and shows us our simple and comfortable room, furnished with rather astonishingly beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.

Dinner at La Luna is a country treat: an antipasto of vitello con pepperoni, agnoletti with 3 fillings, guinea fowl with red wine and grape sauce, and budino (a chocolate hazelnut pudding, of which we sampled perhaps 5 times during our stay in the region!). Dinner was accompanied by La Lunas own dolcetto and moscato dasti, ending with a surprisingly civilized grappa, made of moscato grapes.

ktravers > We fuel up for a trip to Barolo country with a breakfast of toasts, caffe latte, salami, and raschera cheese, a local variety new to us, and quite tasty!

ktravers > Karin finally befriends both initially reticent cats at breakfast, breaking the ice with a bit of breakfast ham. Neither cat really wishes to partake, but they obviously appreciate the gesture and become quite happy to subsequently accept our advances.
