stuart dahne > Just as the ice is beginning to thaw, this Great Heron huddles in a cove to stay warm.
stuart dahne > "Natures Symetry" This Heron slowly wades through the water hunting for his breakfast.
stuart dahne > The Snowy Egret (Egretta thula) Found along much of the East Coast and elsewhere in the U.S., snowy egrets main foods are fish, crabs, amphibians, and insects.
stuart dahne > Juvinile "Semipalmated Plover" These birds forage for food on beaches, tidal flats and fields, usually by sight. They eat insects, crustaceans and worms.
stuart dahne > The Mute Swan is one of the species to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the RAMSAR Convention of 1972 protections apply. However,numbers fluctuate, due to die-offs caused by pollution, degraded lead in water bodies, installation of towers, high wires and loss of habitat due to development. A massive die-off of waterfowl, including swans, came in 1926 when the U.S.War Department tested phosphorus bombs in the Baltimore Harbor, emptying into the Chesapeake Bay.
