(May 24) This evening we (being Crash Effect) played at Acadia Cafe. Among the acts were The Stellanovas, a great duo out of Madison, Wisconsin, that offered up a nice variety of Americana, jazz, and sort of a down home blues type sound. In the spirit of further honing my photography skills, this will be my attempt at taking a photo-a-day. Now I'm sure I won't fill it EVERY day, but I'll certainly give it the ol' college try.

glp > (May 20) - Besides it being a busy day for me, it was kinda cold and gloomy and felt like a nap day (in between projects). So to keep the PAD going, I pulled out this one from one of the earlier photos that I took with my Digital Rebel XT.

glp > (May 19) Last night my grandfather (in-law) Fred Paez passed away at the old age of 94 after suffering a severe stroke. Today's PAD is in memory of him. [Photo taken at Christmas 2006]

glp > (May 16) A cool looking, old door I saw on my walk to my 1:00 meeting following lunch. I particularly liked the variety of textures with the spattering of a white substance over the plywood.

glp > (May 17) 7th Place and Wabasha Street in Saint Paul, Minnesota is one of my favorite places to go in downtown. I love the walkway through there, which resembles a little bit of my time in Europe. And hey, Great Waters Brewery is located here, too. :)

glp > (May 18) Friday night was filled with energy, enthusiasm, and passion as Psalters brought down the house at the Minneapolis Fallout Art Shelter. http://www.psalters.com

glp > (May 21) News stations and newspapers have slow news days...this was a slow day for photography for me. I wandered around downtown for lunch and just didn't see any subjects that stood out...that plus the light was just so harsh. So evening came and here's a picture of a birdhouse from our backyard, made from pieces of an old family farm within my heritage.

glp > (May 22) It was a VERY windy day in Saint Paul with gusts up near 30 to 40 miles per hour. With the abundant movement through the air, I thought it'd be a good PAD subject for the day: wind. As I walked downtown for lunch, the flags near the Wells Fargo building were beckoning me over yonder to take their picture. To get a nice balance of sky and the foreground I did have to do some post-processing blending.

glp > (May 23) It was a busy and miserable day for me. With no real time to spend looking for a good exposure for the day, this is the only interesting thing I could come up with for the 15 minutes that I had to myself today. I guess some days are just like that. The only thing that was really interesting to me in this composition was the variety of curves, but it really could use a primary subject...like a person leaning in on the wall. Maybe next time.

glp > (May 25) Today we laid our grandfather Fred Paez to rest. While I felt uncomfortable taking photographs at certain moments, there was this serene and somber moment that I could not pass up. In this exposure, my grandmother is being escorted to the front by one of her sons and daughters. This is perhaps my favorite exposure to date.

glp > (May 27) It's our wedding anniversary today. Seven years of marriage and many more to come. My wife holding Charlie for a brief photo opp... operative word here being "brief" ... he doesn't like to be held much. You think his expression gives it away?

$glp > (May 26) Frankie deep in thought. Using my golden light refractor and the warmth of the morning sun backlighting his shape, this shot was irresistible.$

glp > (May 28) We spent our anniversary weekend up in Duluth. The first day was miserably cold and windy, topping out at 45 degrees down by the lake. The only shot that really was worth anything was this portrait I took of my wife using the gold reflector to lighten up her face.

glp > (May 29) Second day in Duluth and the fog rolled in thick while we were up at Grand Marais. It followed us down to Split Rock Lighthouse (where this was taken) and eventually spread throughout Duluth later that afternoon.

glp > (May 30) Last day in Duluth. We woke up to the same fog that rolled in yesterday afternoon; so thick that we ended up leaving early. At least I got in an hour of shooting early in the morning.
