Birds > Stephen  > Animals > Game Birds and Doves
This is a gallery featuring mostly what one would call game birds. I have quite a few doves in this gallery. Doves tend to be overlooked as they are so common and many times frustrate people as they overwhelm feeders, other birds and are quite messy especially in the city parks. However, if you find them in a more natural environment they are actually quite photogenic.

Stephen > I found this mourning dove hiding in the thick grasses near a feeding station at Los Madrones Ranch near Dripping Springs, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > Mourning Doves are so common that many people simply take them for granted; ignore them even. However, they are quite photogenic and if one can find them in a more rural environment away from its suburban haunts, they do take nice photographs. Los Madrones Ranch, Dripping Springs, Texas, April 2008.

Stephen > This was one of the few doves that gave me a nice perch. Most were extremely wary, but this white winged dove was bold enough to get some water and seed and then perch nicely. Martin Refuge, Edinburg, Texas, June 2008.
Stephen > It was a scorching hot day at the Martin Refuge. The water areas were very popular as one can see by this drinking white winged dove. Martin Refuge, Edinburg, Texas, June 2008

Stephen > I like this image because of the strong eye contact. This inca dove perferred to stay somewhat hidden but it peeked out long enough to snap this shot. Martin Refuge, Edinburg, Texas, June 2008
