Ah, summer.

Darling daughter and fabulous niece came up to Tahoe with my brother and me for a couple of days. They are six months apart in age and as close as sisters. They are also both very goofy and love to ham it up for the camera.

As I am S L O W L Y post processing my photos from the wedding, I've come across a couple that I like...more from a photographer's point of view, then one that would sell. This little flower girl was quietly getting ready for the wedding, while everyone around her was busy getting the bride ready. She seemed like a quiet oasis in the midst of high anxiety.

So, the day after my first wedding shoot, I had a photo shoot at a lovely local restaurant that was hosting a wedding. They wanted me to get there early to take some advertising shots. While I was there, the cake lady showed up and said she would pay me for any good photos I took of the cake. So, I took a bunch of cake shots, both for the restaurant and the cake place using my favorite natural window light. And this subject did not move around making sure everything was going according to plan...like my bride did. Sigh.

Okay...I'm ready for my next wedding.

First wedding.

Check.

Boy, oh boy. Wedding photography is definitely a calling. It is exhausting, exhilarting, frustrating, eye-opening, challenging, exhausting, fun, beautiful, exhausting...did I mention exhausting?

I haven't gone through half of the 800 photos that I took, but I did spy this one that I kind of liked. Window light is the best.

I had the extreme honor of doing a photo shoot with a wonderful family of 6 and 2 horses and 2 dogs. This darling girl was a delight and her horse mostly cooperated. Isn't she just adorable? I might want to skip the horses and puppies next time, but I can't wait to do a photo session with another family.

I'm trying to catch up a little as lots of things have been happening around the schmautz haus of late. My daughter graduated from high school on Saturday night and we are as proud as can be of her. My dilemma was how to take a picture of her in the midst of all those capped and gowned kids who all looked alike. Luckily she was in the back row and relatively easy to find. I waited until they all threw their caps in the air and snapped the picture. Then I turned the photo into black and white and painted over the areas I wanted to highlight using a mask (I love photoshop.) Voila. I note that she had not yet figured out that she was supposed to throw her cap in the air. Sigh.

I finally finished processing all my photos from a wonderful photo shoot of some horses and riders on a sunset/moonlight horseback ride. I do not ride horses because they do not like me and try to remove me as quickly as possible. But the photo shoot was amazing. The light was perfect, the horses were magnificent and the riders were cooperative and fun.

Oh I had such lovely photos to post yesterday, but it all went out the window when we were evacuated due to a fire (here you can see the helicopter with his water bucket...it looked a lot bigger in person). When you live in the forest in California, fire is always a worry. We've never had one this close before. Good news, the wonderful emergency people from El Dorado County and the California Dept of Fire contained the fire to 70 acres or so with no buildings lost. We took the voluntary evacuation order as an opportunity to come up to Tahoe. There's always a silver lining to every situation.
