tonygt19 > High res cross eyed stereo animated gif. It may begin loading one frame at a time with slow internet connections. Once all the frames are loaded in it animates more smoothly. It also slows and becomes jerky near the end probably due to being oversized file , 8.9MB
tonygt19 > Note: select "Original" size from right side pop up menu to view animation. This is an animated 3d crosseye stereo 360 rotation of a Banded Elm Bark beetle with mark-up.
tonygt19 > This Saw Toothed Grain Beetle ( Oryzaephilus surinamensis ) Dorsal view is only a couple of millimeters long. It is compact, nearly flat and doesn't have long extending body parts. It is a good subject for Montage Explorer as are the bark beetles. The definitive six lateral teeth on the prothorax can easily be seen and counted in this image. This tiny beetle is a stored product pest that the U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine monitors and produces information about in pamphlets to government agencies. The lab is imaging a whole series of similar stored product pests for CHPPM West out of Ft. Lewis, Washington.

tonygt19 > Dorsal view of Stegobium paniceum (Drugstore beetle) with partial view of wings beneath elytra. The longitudinal striations on the elytra distinguish it from the smooth surfaced elytra of the cigarette beetle.
tonygt19 > Profile view of Stegobium paniceum aka Drugstore Beetle. A quote within a quote from the Univ of Florida Ento Dept describing this 3mm long Pest : "The drugstore beetle attacks such a wide variety of foods and material that one anonymous quote states that it "eats anything but cast iron." It gets its name from its habit of feeding on prescription drugs." It harbors an internal symbiotic yeast that gives it its ability to digest nearly anything.
tonygt19 > Ventral view of Stegobium paniceum aka Drugstore Beetle. The club shaped segments of this specimen's remaining antenna distinguish it from the cigarette beetle which has serrated antennae.
tonygt19 > Close-up of Stegobium paniceum antenna
An intact antenna has three segments in this species.
This antenna has a segment broken off and has segments of the legs broken off as well, as seen in the previous image.
