A Picture of Myself...EVERY day...For a YEAR

The first question that comes to my mind is: What the hell was I thinking?

I guess the main reason, of course, is that I would like to improve upon my photography skills. I mean, if I take at least one picture EVERY friggin day for a year, HOW CAN THEY NOT GET BETTER? If they don't, I am sure one of my friends will break into my house and smash up all of my camera gear as a non-random act of kindness.

aktpics > Day 267 - My little treasures.It is really amazing what these two will do for a treat. So much like the dogs they grew up with. Its also amazing at the depths that I will go to to get a POD :)

As Hillary pointed out earlier, I have only 100 days left in the project. Well, 99 now. That is still a lot of days left. I can't believe I am still finding stupid things to take pictures of in my house. I really need to get out more or you all will be seeing a lot of my big toe for the next 99 days (thanks for that tip, Dave).

Melissa, to answer your question - I will absolutely NOT extend this project another year! Of course, there is no way I could abandon the dailies, though. Seriously, I know this has been said by a few very wise women already, but the dailies ROCK! I am really looking forward to doing a project that has no limitations. Or maybe just one limitation: no more pictures of me!

I have not been viewing others galleries too much lately. It is because I have been really lousy at managing my time. But I have found that it isn't really helping. In fact, the days that I get to spend a little time checking out what you all are doing I am in such a better mood. Live and learn.

Sorry for the long post. I never thought I would have made it this far and probably wouldn't have without this fun group of people!

aktpics > Day 266 - Black and white eye.Driving home from Leesburg yesterday I spotted some hay bales along the way. I never realized how cool they were up close and personal. I found this picturesc farmhouse with these hay bales and for the first time ever I was actually imagining how the shot would look in black and white. The bad news is that it took me about 2 hours in photoshop today to get the camera to "see" what I saw.

aktpics > Day 265 - Home at last.I certainly am getting my money's worth from my Pelican camera case. I had to stand on it so that I could see over the fence during the game.

I finally got the baseball pictures uploaded too (Events/Sports). If I was retired right now I sure wouldn't have to worry about being bored.

Mikhi left me a smelly token of how much he misses me when I am gone, too. It's so good to be loved.

aktpics > Day 264 - Photography in progress.Last night's game was called off because the field was too wet to play on. This is great for me because now I get to shoot at least one game in sunlight, even if it is from behind the fence (grumble).

I mentioned in yesterday's post that this ball field is really strict - today I found out that cell phones must be turned off or be set on vibrate. This is baseball for crying out loud! I shouldn't say that, crying out loud probably is forbidden also. I feel like I entered the twilight zone.

All complaining aside, I gotta tell you, this tournament was run extremely well. The ball fields are, in my opinion, like the major leagues - just smaller. In spite of all of the rules, the staff was really great too. That was hard for me to admit since I hate being told what I can't do.

Oh, and that sign isn't mine :)

aktpics > Day 263 - Size doesn't matter.I was told that this ball field was pretty strict with who could and could not be on the field during play. I wasn't worried since I am used to getting carte blanche as soon as I take out the "big lens".

Instead I get treated like paparazzi and was told to stay behind the (tall) fence, with the rest of the rif-raf.

To make matters worse, all of the games start at 7:30 and finish under the lights. And, about 10 minutes after I took this picture a thunderstorm rolled in and sent everyone scrambling to their vehicles.

aktpics > Day 262 - Free room.I feel like I left for vacation and forgot to say goodbye. Derek's little league team made it to the state championships, but I wasn't able to make it to the first two days. When I heard they hadn't been eliminated, I grabbed my gear and drove down to Leesburg, VA to watch and take some pictures.

When I called the hotel for reservations and I mentioned the little league room rate, they were out of rooms. I called back and didn't mention anything about little league and had no problem getting a room for the standard rate. When I get there were out of non-smoking rooms, so they gave me a smoking room...for free. Much better than the little league rate.

I used the "Lomo effect" in LR from some presets that I got from John (300m) to simulate the nicotine from the smoking room :)

aktpics > Day 261 - Hyper Aqualand.I bought this watch in 1995 specifically for scuba diving. Back then I was diving pretty much every weekend and I could download depth and temperature profiles from this to my computer.

At first I never wore this watch to work because it wasn't really a dress watch and it is pretty bulky.

After systematically destroying every dress watch I have ever owned, this is now my one and only. It has taken bumps, scratches, drops and even sparks from welding and it keeps on, um working.

aktpics > Day 260 - Baby's got blue background.I was looking at a picture of someone today and noticed that the background had some light blue tinting.

That got me thinking for some reason. If I illuminate the subject (me) with tungsten and use a flash to fill a white background...if the white balance is set correctly, the background should end up with a blue tint.

There you have it. I will keep this trick in mind if I get to photograph anyone with pretty blue eyes.

aktpics > Day 258 - Life of an indoor cat.I have a feeling they are going to enjoy "farm living". I will too as soon as I can keep the "Green Acres" theme song out of my head for a week straight.

aktpics > Day 257 - Black beans.In my house this is a major component in burritos, and anything else even remotely Mexican. Hell, I'll even slather these onto a hot dog.

aktpics > Day 256 - The stinker and I.Although you can't tell from his expression, this is one of Mikhi's favorite things to do in the world - cuddling. He purrs so loudly it sounds like he has a respitory infection.

aktpics > Day 255 - Prosthetic.Really just a strange shot that counts as an SP because my fingers are in frame.

I borrowed Merlin's favorite toy, the ping-pong ball, for this one. I kept worrying that he was going to launch himself onto the table and attack it before the shutter clicked.

aktpics > Day 254 - The stinker.I've found him, I'm just not sure what to do with him.

He is fine when I'm home, but still misbehaves sometimes when I'm am gone for a couple of days.

He manages to stay clear of the "pisscat mat", though. I may have to wire the whole house.
