Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Spring training

(Jan. 30) The bees were out today. I forgot how hard it is to take a shot of one.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Somebody's been a very naughty doggy

(Jan. 28) And while we aren't naming names, his initials would be G-U-S.

Gus got out again right before I left for the trip up north -- over the cinderblocks, between the blocks and the fence, through the reinforcing stakes, and under the fence. I've run out of prepositions to hold him in. He was found again by nice neighbors. This is working out really well for him -- he gets out, goes for a lark, gets picked up by a family, fussed over, I come pick him up, and he goes home and has dinner. So we are upping the game. Tomorrow a crew is coming to start putting in a concrete block wall in the back. Today the old fence went down, along with all the bushes, and a temporary fence went up:

Gus is reserving judgement.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > I do what with which hand and to whom?

(Jan. 28) No wonder I find Aikido so difficult. I can't even figure out which hands belong to me, let alone the grammar to describe it. I don't think any of these hands are mine, so I guess I'm relatively safe.

And for anyone who is interested, this is the start of a rather nasty wrist lock. The guy who will go down is the one on the left. The hands in the background belong to a student who is mimicking the technique. Jim was demonstrating the need to keep the technique low and directed toward the attacker's center -- after all, he still has a free hand and some feet to do some damage!
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Easy entertainment

(Jan. 27) I've been sick for two days and not up to going out to take photos or doing anything remotely thoughtful. So Jim offered to help me get a shot of Gypsy playing with her favorite toy -- the milk carton ring. Not enough light, so I got out a flashlight (high tech here), but Gypsy wasn't really into it. We then amused ourselves by having her chase around the floor after the flashlight light.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Curves

(Jan. 26) I have lousy train karma and got stopped by a train . . . again . . . on the way to pick up Gus from the kennel. I was stopped by one on the way to take him. My record is being stopped by 5 trains in one day.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Yeah, I'd say raincoat and umbrella really

(Jan. 25) Rain, rain, rain and more rain while we were at UC San Francisco. This was out of the car window on the way back to the airport.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > UC Berkeley tower

(Jan. 24) Out of the hotel window in the rain. Our hotel had no heat so I couldn't really sleep well, even though they did offer extra blankets. I piled up some of the blankets to take this shot with a long exposure.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Santa Cruz in the morning

(Jan. 23) Morning view from the hotel. This was the last sunshine we saw.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Good omen

(Jan. 22) My colleagues and I saw this while walking near the hotel in Santa Cruz. I hope this a good omen for the presentation and meetings tomorrow.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Mount Rubidoux Summit

(Jan. 21) This was taken yesterday, but it seemed appropriate for reflection on the perspective of Martin Luther King.

I'll be out of town on a work trip for the week with intermittent internet access. I apologize for not commenting on other's dp community shots for the last few days. It's been a little hectic. I'll try to catch up on the road.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Ready for his close-up

(Jan. 20) A phoebe taken with the old dreb while out walking Gus. It's a trooper of a camera.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Mt. Baldy from Mount Rubidoux

(Jan. 19) Despite many attempts at different things today, nothing was remotely postable. Here's a shot from last week with the dreb of Mount Baldy with snow. It looks amazing rural in the foreground, but it isn't really.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Painting with a cat

(Jan. 18) I went to a talk yesterday that had to do with painting with light. I thought I'd try painting with a cat instead (never start at the beginning, I say). I'll revisit this technique sometime with a better flashlight. I might try painting with a hound too, but I don't think I'll get him moving unless the light has food attached.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > No, you blink first

(Jan. 17) Not much time to shoot today. This is what I saw from the study: Jim and Gus having a stare down over a sandwich.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > GBH in the field - Take 2

(Jan. 16) Another retake of the GBH from five days ago. He didn't let me get much closer, but he also didn't fly about. He just flew away.
