Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Vive la difference (or, as Shelly wrote, "Mom! Billy says I'm adopted")

(Dec. 31) A blustery December day, and the pelican and comorants had adopted a common attitude of tolerance and acceptance. I take it as a lesson to be learned for 2008.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Big Bird

(Dec. 30) Down at Rancho Jurupa Park, Rubidoux, CA. Went for a walk in this area with a friend and we saw every kind of bird I've ever seen around the riverbottom -- herons (blue, green, night), egrets, hawks (red tail, coopers, and kestrel), and that phainopepla again.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > I think she's a beaut . . .

(Dec. 29) . . . and she comes with a spare cab too. There was enough interest in yesterday's shot that I thought you might want to see the whole story. The door says Wickenberg, but that's down the hill. This is Yarnell, sort of at the rim of Arizona's "highlands." Jim says there's too much work, rust, and rot for the price, but it sure is a neat truck. P.S. Yes, that is a jack supporting the back axle.

Rick's posted a comparative shot:

Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Project truck

(Dec. 28) Truck for sale in Yarnell, AZ. We stopped to take a look. Everything original except the tires, but it was pretty much rusted in place. (Tom, it was a Dodge, a red one.)
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > An Alka Seltzer moment

(Dec. 27) This was exciting, if a little gruesome. I went to find a hawk that I know hangs out at a local park when it's windy (which it was) and no-one is around. I found him just in time to see him catch a furry thing right in front of me and then take it up to a dead tree to eat. He didn't seem to mind me taking shots, but I think he knows me by now. Here are few more (warning -- one is a little graphic if you like rodents):

Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Welcome to Southern California

(Dec. 26) This is really there. It's Cabazon at Banning Pass, the entrance to the Inland Empire. What more can I say?
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Hawking

(Dec. 25) Watson Woods, Prescott, AZ on a windy, cold, Christmas day. We saw lots of hawks, I took a bizillion photos, and not one really turned out decent. No excuses. Just one of those days.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Afternoon walk

(Dec. 24) My mother and her dog on the afternoon walk. Bente is 13 years old and no longer hears too well, so she wears a bell when out for a walk so that at least we know where she is. My mother says it's like walking with someone from the Salvation Army. Here's some more of Bente:

And of the day's wildlife:

Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Arizona Outback

(Dec. 23) We're back (it's the 26th) and I'll catch up with a photo from each day tomorrow. Here's from the trip to Prescott. It's not quite as dire as it sounds -- Hope is one of the little tiny towns or outposts in the Arizona Outback. Here are a few more from that day:

It really is a rather surreal drive.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Complaint

(Dec. 22) This was the most difficult bad shot ever. It started out to be a photo of a deer dane in dappled sunshine and falling leaves. It ended up being a hold-still-for-10-seconds-dammit shot. Gus had some choice comments about it as well and is filing a complaint with the Great Dane Union as we speak.

I'll be out-of-town for the next few days. Dunno if I'll be on-line during that time, so best wishes to all of you in the daily photo community for Christmas and the holidays.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Lazy afternoon nap

(Dec. 21) Windy day at Fairmount Park and the cormorants were taking advantage of a little sun, peace, and quiet. Not a lot of people around, and the resident human population was a little rough, so I didn't stick around long.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Then he falls down. Any questions?

(Dec. 20) No photos today, so another one from yesterday. It looks simple but it isn't.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Move from your center -- mind, body, and spirit

(Dec. 19) Jim's mantra and one that is impossible to resist.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Vacation!

(Dec. 18) I was waiting in the left turn lane of a busy intersection and this trio raced the light across, with much glee and without adult supervision. Definitely a carpe diem group.
Andrea Kaus (ChaosGraphics) > Tree Potato

(Dec. 17) One never has the right camera when one needs it. I carry my old dreb (pre XT and Xti) with a cracked lens with me when I walk Gus, sort of just in case I run into . . . a hawk. And I did. Gus, the hawk, and I saw each other all at the same time, and the hawk didn't stick around long after I took this, certainly not enough to adjust the ISO or the fstop enough to get the shutter speed up. This is 1/40th of a second. The shots of him flying off are total blurs, what Jim calls "art shots" (and not in a nice way).
Vive la difference (or, as Shelly wrote, "Mom! Billy says I'm adopted")

(Dec. 31) A blustery December day, and the pelican and comorants had adopted a common attitude of tolerance and acceptance. I take it as a lesson to be learned for 2008.
