LITUYA BAY. On July 9th, 1958, a 8.3 magnitude earthquake triggered a massive rockfall at the head of Lituya bay which resulted in the largest tsunami ever recorded. The water rose to an unbelievable height of 1,720 feet and scoured the vegetation off the hills and trees in the bay. Pic was taken during an early morning flight to Anchorage.
