I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but just got Photoshop Elements, so wish me luck!

I began posting on the daily photos community over a year ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > Saturday date night.

It was a lovely summer evening, so we went to a car cruise, took a long drive through the park, and finished off with ice cream. Perfect! (July 5, 2008)

There are three possible parts to a date, of which at least two must be offered: entertainment, food, and affection. It is customary to begin a series of dates with a great deal of entertainment, a moderate amount of food, and the merest suggestion of affection. As the amount of affection increases, the entertainment can be reduced proportionately. When the affection IS the entertainment, we no longer call it dating. Under no circumstances can the food be omitted.”

irishmurr > Hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July! (July 4, 2008)

"And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me."
   ~~ Lee Greenwood
irishmurr > I've been trying to get a shot of the lilies in my yard for a couple of days now. Only a couple have bloomed so far, but then today was nothing but rain, leaving them all soggy .... so here's one from our trip to the zoo yesterday. I'll keep trying to catch one of mine! (July 3, 2008)

"When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other."
   ~~ Chinese Proverbs
irishmurr > This is for all the flamingo lovers out there!

It was a lovely day to spend at the zoo, so that's exactly what we did. (July 2, 2008)

"Someone told me it's all happening at the zoo."
   ~~ Paul Simon
irishmurr > I thought I'd try something a little different today. This is an interesting gentleman, who's well known in Trisha and Chas' neighborhood. He was happy to show his robot to this young man -- and happy to have his photo taken. It was so nice to stop and have a little conversation with him. (July 1, 2008)

"I have an affection for a great city. I feel safe in the neighborhood of man, and enjoy the sweet security of the streets."
   ~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
irishmurr > Today was a cool, dreary day so I thought I'd share another shot from yesterday -- when it was a lovely day to be down by the Lake. (June 30, 2008)

"A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature."
   ~~ Henry David Thoreau
irishmurr > Vacation.

We're on vacation this week .... not going anywhere .... just enjoying our lovely city ... will try and check in when I can ..... may actually have more time to do that ..... but then again, I may not! ;-)
(June 29, 2008)

"A vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it in."
   ~~ Robert Orben

btw, this shot is pretty much right out of the camera -- just a little cropping. I could've worked on it a little, but hey, I'm on vacation!
irishmurr > It's Saturday night and Johnny has big plans for the evening!

And Michael looks pretty dapper, too! (June 28, 2008)

Clean shirt, new shoes
And I don't know where I'm goin' to.
Silk suit, black tie,
I don't need a reason why.
They come runnin' just as fast as they can
Coz every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man"

~~ Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill & Frank Beard
irishmurr > Just a quick flower shot with the point-and-shoot. (June 27, 2008)

Definitely inspired by Mom4squirrels! :-)

"I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it."
   ~~ Alice Walker
irishmurr > It's tough being a toddler. (June 26, 2008)

"No day is so bad it can't be fixed with a nap."
   ~~ Carrie Snow
irishmurr > Photographer Assistant Ashley

I've been taking photos of our neighbor Ashley since she was born. Last night, during one of our neighborhood get-togethers, she had me take this shot a few times. Each time she checked to see how it looked and then moved closer to the camera and had me take it again. So here's Ashley's version -- the one our little expert was finally happy with! (June 25, 2008)

"The greatest sign of success for a teacher... is to be able to say, "The children are now working as if I did not exist."
   ~~ Maria Montessori
irishmurr > The good news today was that it wasn't as windy as it has been lately; the bad news was that the middle of the afternoon was the only time I had to take some photos. I didn't like the sun beating down, but thought I'd give some flower shots a try anyway. And then I spotted this poor guy. Looks like he's been in a battle or two, so I figured he deserved to be my daily. (June 24, 2008)

"It is better to deserve without receiving, than to receive without deserving."
   ~~ Robert Green Ingersoll
irishmurr > Here's one from last week's car cruise. Our old guy looks right at home here, doesn't he? (June 23, 2008)

"One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock rock
Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock rock
Nine, ten, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock rock
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight"
~~ Max Freedman and Jimmy DeKnight
irishmurr > I -- the most non-nature photographer in the bunch -- bring you this blue heron, courtesy of our bike ride through the national park. It's a huge crop, but I didn't have my 75-300mm lens with me. I was riding a bike, after all -- which was an incredible feat in and of itself! ;-)
(June 22, 2008)

"One touch of nature makes the whole world kin."
   ~~ William Shakespeare
irishmurr > I thought for sure I'd be bringing you a classic auto shot for my daily today, but Mother Nature had other ideas. We had plans to go to a local Irish restaurant for a cruise-in this evening when thunderstorms and tornado warnings suddenly rolled in. Well, we decided to leave the old car at home and still braved our way through the high waters to meet the rest of the Murrtini gang for a wonderful dinner. After talking with the owners of the restaurant, we discovered that he's Greek (as is Johnny's other grandma -- who actually remembers his family from the old neighborhood!) and his wife is Irish, making their children half Greek and half Irish. They were thrilled to meet our little Johnny -- part Greek, part Irish, with some Cuban in there, too. Anyway, it turned out to be an absolutely wonderful evening! And, look, John William colored for all of you for the first time. Guess he's still deciding if he's going to be right-handed or left-handed. Or which way the crayons go for that matter. ;-)

Sorry to ramble on so, but it was such a great time -- just not the one we expected. (June 21, 2008)

"It is a wise person that adapts themselves to all contingencies; it's the fool who always struggles like a swimmer against the current."
