I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but just got Photoshop Elements, so wish me luck!

I began posting on the daily photos community over a year ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > Trisha and Chas are expecting a baby in October and guess what we just found out from the ultrasound? ;-)
(May 16, 2008)

"Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body."
~~ Elizabeth Stone

As you can see, I'm still experimenting with my Elements program and discovering what it can do. I'm not too sure about the spotlight effect on this shot, but thought I'd try something different. Guess that's the best way to learn if something does -- or doesn't -- work, and to keep on learning, right? Anyway, thought I'd throw it out there and see what everyone thinks.
irishmurr > I have no idea what kind of flowers these are, but they were here when we moved in 20 years ago, and keep coming back without any effort on my part ..... so they're one of my favorites! (May 15, 2008)

"Despite the gardener's best intentions, Nature will improvise."
   ~~ Michael P. Garafalo
irishmurr > This is one of the flower shots I was working on when Johnny decided to start walking -- so here it is, just one day later. (May 14, 2008)

"The earth laughs in flowers."
   ~~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
irishmurr > My Rebel XT came back from repair today, so I was trying it out with some flower shots when I got the call: Johnny has decided to walk! He's taken a few steps before, and was walking as long as he could hold on to something, but today he was walking back and forth, back and forth .... well, you get the picture. This is just a family snapshot, but it was an exciting day around here, so indulge a grandma and let her brag! (May 13, 2008)

"Small things make base men proud."
   ~~ William Shakespeare

If anyone is interested in a shot of John William actually walking, click here.
irishmurr > Here's my wonderful husband, or as he likes to be known: the Senior Member of our Posse. This is what happens when you spend too much time with the [grown] children. (May 12, 2008)

"Men do not quit playing because they grow old; they grow old because they quit playing."
   ~~ Oliver Wendell Holmes
irishmurr > Happy Mother's Day!

Nothing says Mother's Day like ..... baseball? Yep, the Murr-tini family headed off to the ball field, after a delicious brunch at Chas and Trisha's house. Bad news: the game was rained out and we're going to try it again today. Good news: I got the nerve up to ask this fan if I could take his picture -- which is something I never do. Of course, it helped that he looked like he doesn't mind the attention. ;-)

Hope all the Moms out there had a wonderful day! (May 11, 2008)

"A hot dog at the ballgame beats roast beef at the Ritz."
   ~~ Humphrey Bogart
irishmurr > Success for both Michael and I!

His team won their soccer game (Yea!) and I was standing there with my trusty point-and-shoot, flashing because the battery was dying and Michael was running toward the tunnel ..... and I didn't know until I uploaded the photos whether I had even gotten the shot or not.

I think we both had a good day. ;-)
(May 10, 2008)

"I couldn't wait for success... so I went ahead without it."
   ~~ Jonathan Winters
irishmurr > My azaleas are blooming!

Nothing special about this shot. It's a quick one with little processing. Busy day today, but I did want to share my lovely azaleas with you all! (May 9, 2008)

"Die when I may, I want it said by those who knew me best that I always plucked a thistle and planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow."
   ~~ Abraham Lincoln
irishmurr > Here's a rare SP! It's actually one of the gazillion shots I took the other day down in our son's neighborhood. I did mention it's an interesting place to live, didn't I? (May 8, 2008)

"If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary."
   ~~ Jim Rohn
irishmurr > Just another Johnny shot.

My Rebel XT is back at Canon, so today was a day for family snapshots with the point and shoot. Thought I'd try a little effect and see what you all thought. (May 7, 2008)

"All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better."
   ~~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
irishmurr > Ever have one of those days?

I took a gazillion (yes, a gazillion!) shots today. Chas and Trisha live in a wonderful, older part of town and we were over there this afternoon. I took photos of people, animals, interesting architecture, the neighborhood .... and ended up with this. And since we got home late, I was too tired to even try and improve it much. (May 6, 2008)

"Ones best success comes after their greatest disappointments."
   ~~ Henry Ward Beecher
irishmurr > Happy Cinco de Mayo!

This is our son Chas sitting on our front porch, wearing a sombrero we brought home from Mexico years ago. You'd never guess from his serious expression how absolutely hilarious he was acting. And, btw, he gets that from his father. ;-)
(May 5, 2008)

"Photography, as we all know, is not real at all. It is an illusion of reality with which we create our own private world."
   ~~ Arnold Newman
irishmurr > Spring blossoms.

There's nothing like taking a walk on a lovely spring day. (May 4, 2008)

"I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read and all the friends I want to see."
   ~~ John Burroughs
irishmurr > It's been raining here for two days now, so here's one from a couple of days ago. What do you do when you have a bird, sitting on a yucky pool cover in front of a yucky looking fence? Blur the edges and hope for the best? ;-)
(May 3, 2008)

"The most essential factor is persistence - the determination never to allow your energy or enthusiasm to be dampened by the discouragement that must inevitably come."
   ~~ James Whitcomb Riley
irishmurr > I've gone wireless!

I'm 50 years old and just recently started shooting digital, got my first program to process photos .... and now this. I did today's daily in sepia because, even though I am forcing myself into all this new technology, I'm still basically "old school." ;-)
(May 2, 2008)

"Live your life and forget your age."
   ~~ Norman Vincent Peale
