Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 231 - 8/20/08 Now we pause for a brief commercial break.... A certain SmugMugger mentioned these when we met...they happen to be one of my favorite oral hygiene aids next to the Sonicare powerbrush, dental floss, and oral irrigators (WATER PIK). Using these daily is one of your best defenses against gum disease! I decided to take this shot using my underused Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro lens and my underused tripod last night. I set up a banana in the background for the yellow and a tea canister on the right for some variation of diffused colors with the shallow dof...That's my technical info. We are off to Buenos Aires, Argentina for 17 days...oh boy!!! I will have the laptop so I do hope to be somewhat in touch...Enjoy the end of summer..I am off to winter!!!! Hugs!
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 230 8/19/08 Desperation shot... Busy days and not much time to shoot or anything special going on. Finishing up packing for our trip tomorrow...yes, another trip. This is really 'the year of travel' for Steve and for me...When I feel a little guilty that we have been traveling so much, he reminds me that we are not getting younger, we are not getting more able to travel, and life can change in an instant. We need to do what we like, when we can, while we can...so we are. Back to this desperation shot...Just some trash near where I park my car at work shot during my lunch break today. The green glass bottle caught my eye and I liked the two leaves..different textures, etc....
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 229 - 8/18/08 Something's Missing...Know what it is??? The reflections. This is a blah little, nothing special photo that I took when I left my wonderful local Camera store. I bought my first polarizing lens and this was one of two shots I took in the parking lot. Thanks so much to ceejanerun for your wonderful help in understanding when and how to use it and what I should get. I will give it a try on our next vacation coming up...yes, we are going away again. This is our big one! Then I should be home for awhile... Anyway, here is the before shot of the CAR with reflections
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 228 - 8/17/08 Steve's Mom, my mother-in-law. This is Steve's almost 91 year old mother. I posted a photo of her at least once before. She still lives on her own, is in good health (knock on wood) and enjoys dressing up every single day. She watches what she eats, does some leg exercises every morning and avoids stress. I guess that's the secret to her life success. We took her out to see the new Woody Allen movie last night. She enjoyed it, but didn't love it. Steve sees her almost every day, but not on Thursdays when she plays Canasta! We should all age so gracefully..... Only pp was a crop and a slight soft focus of the background to show her off.
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 227 8/16/08 Not another SmugMug mug! After leaving Irishmurr and company yesterday afternoon, while walking to my car, this gentleman said hello and I smiled hello back. Then he said, " I like your personality, take my picture" I asked, "Do you really want me to take your picture?" he said, "Yes!" I did....simple as that! Warm smile and friendly words go a long way to make a day, don't they???
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 227 8/15/08 Another SmugMugger comes to Philly...Meet Carole (Irishmurr) and Larry Murray..What a lovely afternoon Leslie (ljn335) and I headed back into Center City Philly today to meet them and their son Chas and his wife Theresa. They also had a lovely friend Judy from Australia who is here with them to go to the cadillac show in Cherry Hill, NJ. Thanks for the visit guys!!! It was great to meet you! Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 226 8/13/08 IT WAS GREAT AT EASTERN STATE!!! Ha, ha...sounds like a high school cheer, but it was actually our little gathering of SmugMuggers at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia yesterday. Clockwise from Alex Teithof, Me, Matt Pilsner, Leslie(ljn335), John Williamson ( CSPics) and Lindsay ( Matt's friend ) We had such a great time. I think that posing for this photo and the patience everyone showed while I ran back and forth setting up the camera and getting it right was their sort of 'penitance' for times they may have needed patience from some of their own photo models. We all sort of went our own way from almost 2 1/2 hours. For those who had never been there before there was some serious shooting of the sights. For Leslie (ljn335) and me there was time to chat and get to know eachother better and take a few shots as we wandered. We all met and went out to dinner and got to know eachother better. It was truly another great SmugMug Meetup experience for me that I'll treasure! Really a great group! Thanks, you guys for all making the effort to come into Philly and get together. John, I hope after a nightflight from California, hours wandering the prison, and then the long ride home to Lancaster you are getting some rest today. Thanks for making the effort to join us!!! I wanted to get this shot uploaded, but will also post my gallery of all my shots here. I did not shoot much at all. I had been there before and quite frankly, I am overwhelmed with all the photos I have to process right now. I decided to post good and bad shots just to keep the documentation of what the day was like for me. It will show you that I have a lot to learn. Thank you Alex for your help in understanding that highlighting alert blinkie function...very cool!!! Last night we went a little later than usual and I wasn't sure about the light, but I took the 50mm 1.4 lens so I could capture the most light possible. As we started to walk, I took this shot of Steve to see how the light was. Loved the shot and that is my pic for today! I may post again later since I missed some days in the last few weeks..My gallery, my rules, right? Eastern State Penitentiary trip today...could be some photo-ops, don't you think???
Hillary Yasmer Shemin > Post 225 -8/12/08 A window display in Asheville, N.Carolina. I am still processing the 1000+ shots I took at my Dental Hygiene conference in Chicago and the many photos of our trip to N.Carolina and East Tennessee. Still haven't caught up on Florida, either. Tomorrow will be a big photography day and then next week...off on a big trip again...I will have a fresh shot in the morning, but this will have to do for tonight! Loved this in the window and it came out just how I was hoping it would, except for some of the reflection at the top that I wish was not there.
