The first race of 2008 was nice with some cool temps and some rolling fog but featured the ASCS Gulf South Nationals sponsored by AAA Texas. With a strong qualifying field of 24 Sprints the racing action was fast and furious with 4 accidents in the first 4 laps on a very tacky track. When it was all said and done only 15 cars remained to finish the total of 30 laps. Also in the racing action was a nail biter Limited Modified finish between the 87 and 88 cars with Ray Allen finishing on top. The UMP Modifieds also raced but were down in car count in the first race with only 13 cars.
