InOurTime > 9/26/08 Daily Photo. Day 205.

The 6:30 ferry to Fire Island on the last Friday in September. The empty seats are a result of the rainy weather. I think this captures the mood across the Great South Bay. More rain is expected on Saturday and Sunday so a lot of people blew off the last weekend of the summer.

Pumpkin Display at a lower Manhattan store. I love the "from New Jersey" on the sign...

The grandeur of the Beaux Arts Grand Central Terminal clock against the 1960's East German architectural style (OK, Brutalist is what it is technically called) of the Met Life (formerly Pan Am) building.

I may be just a tad biased.

Fifth Avenue Branch of The New York City Library. 42d Street side entrance.

They sure don't make light posts like this anymore. Maybe they should.

Stained glass window depicting Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist, Trinity Church, All Saints Episcopal Parish, Hoboken, New Jersey.

This is straight out of the box and I like it.

I rode my bike 23.5 miles today and here is my proof.

The George Washington Bridge from the Palisades Interstate Park. About 11 miles from Hoboken. I had to stand in the roadway to take photos and while there aren't too many cars, there are enough that you have to be careful. Also, I didn't have a helmet and there was a sign that said they were required on that roadway in the park, so I basically snapped a few pics and turned around. The bridge is about a half mile into the park and is above you. It's a tad disorienting...for me anyway. The original plan called for those towers to be encased in concrete in the Art Deco style, but since it looked so good without the concrete, they left it off.

My new spedometer/odometer let's me track my speed and distance.

Uptown Washington Street, Hoboken, New Jersey.
InOurTime > 9/18/08 Daily Photo. Day 197.

This monument memorializes the fact that every member of the American Expeditionary Force of WWI left for the war from Hoboken. This location was a pier from whence they departed. Hence the slogan, "Heaven, Hell or Hoboken!" that was popular during the war. So they tell me, I wasn't there. My grandfather however was. But he didn't leave from Hoboken because he was with the Royal Irish Fusiliers...but I digress...

The moon over Manhattan that I wanted to shoot the other night was perfectly above the Empire State Building tonight when I walked out of the gym...but I had forgotten my tripod and although I tried taking some shots without it, they did not come out. But, low and behold, I turn around and see these flags flying stiff in the breeze and said to myself "Bingo, pic of the day". If you look closely, you will see the flag from the flagpole on the other side of the fountain is also straight out in the breeze.

Sorry I haven't done much commenting this week. Let's just say I have been preoccupied because I have more than a passing interest in the financial news this week and leave it at that.

I was listening to Springsteen's "The Seeger Sessions" album as I took this shot and "My Oklahoma Home" about the dust bowl of the 30's and the havoc that it wreaked on that album in particular reminded me that history has a way of repeating itself.... "everything but my mortgage blown away....".

These are challenging times indeed.

The NYC Municipal Building. I have posted photos of it before. It is so big and varied, I could probably post a different photo of it for a month. I really like this view.

These night shots sure are tricky. I can't seem to get a decent clear shot. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I am using a tripod and a timer but I am doing something wrong. I am so stupid some of them aren't level even though there is a level on the tripod (it is hard to see it at night though..). Oh, and my intention was to shoot the moon over Manhattan since it is a full moon, but it decided to hide behind the clouds for the 45 minutes I was at the river.

So...another stressful day...but the news tonight was good....I think...

Brooklyn Historical Society building, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, New York.

If history is the witness of the times as it says on the facade, then this was a very historical day, unfortunately. I forced myself to walk about for a bit to get away from the bad financial news. It's very unsettling. Listening to the talk shows while I was on the treadmill for an hour at the gym tonight was even more disturbing.

P.S. I chose this angle and view because otherwise the street lamps and or traffic light would ruin the photo. I'll throw some more photos of this remarkable building in the Brooklyn Heights gallery when I get a chance.

Foggy Sunday morning.

The sun broke through a couple of hours later although there was a lot of jellyfish in the water and on the beach.

I like the shimmering water in this pic. I'd like to get on that deck with the flags to take some photos since it is right on the beach and that deck is one of the highest out there but I don't know the people who own it.

For something more, er....interesting....check out the runner's up daily for today...

You can get to the runner's up gallery by going to my main page and then clicking on the runner's up gallery. This link should work also but it's not in the gallery if you go this way.....http://inourtime.smugmug.com/photos/371757162_REDVx-M.jpg
InOurTime > 9/12/08 Daily Photo. Day 191.

There was a lot less people on the train and ferry to the beach tonight.

Please remember to take your personal belongings when you exit the train.

Due to work and pouring rain, and an earlier than I am used to darkness, this is the photo of the day.
