365 self portraits. Can I actually do it? Inspired by many others, I decided to give my creativity a kick in the pants with a Daily Photo project. With life happening too fast, quite often I lose the spark that drives me to pick up the camera. Hopefully I can maintain not only this project, but the ability to develop more as a photographer. Ideally, the majority of these will be self-portraits to help me get over my image complex and to document the most important, memorable moments of each day.

My rules:
1. At least part of myself in each shot. Every 24 hours.
2. EXIF data pulls rank. I travel and can't always upload on a timely matter, but the timestamp is as the timestamp does...
3. Try to document the dominant activity/event of the day. This is a journal-type project for me, too.
4. Having help is OK. While I always set up the shot myself, occasionally the location requires having someone else hit the shutter for me.

My current 365 Project gallery is here!

For the life of me I have never been able to make the sweet light of sunset look good on trees and green grass. I don't claim to be an expert on color management but trying to get it to work in my favor has always been a fight. Most of the time I don't even bother.

I'm feeling very "blah" these days. Unpresentable and a bit creatively constipated. It's Friday, though, no matter how much reading I need to do for class, and I've got a busy weekend ahead even disregarding that.

This was on our evening walk with Zach. Each of these trees is a prominent calling card for all the neighborhood dogs. Yum!

By popular request, here is an outtake of sorts with the little man himself. Zachary!

Some days you feel invincible, but some days....

After I took this shot I changed into sloppy soft jeans and an old t-shirt. Now I will probably make a mug (bucket) of tea and buy some lip gloss. Or maybe boots. Internets don't fail me now....

This afternoon my husband commented to me that of all the shots I've taken so far, very few have been identifiably me. I don't see this changing too much in the future, so for now get your fill here.

Kersploosh! March brings rain. I love my wellingtons and have been going out and stomping in puddles every chance I get.

I admit I sort of cheated today - Trav stood over my tripod with the umbrella so my camera didn't get soaked. He also hit the shutter for me because I can't put my camera on high speed burst mode using the cable release from 10 feet away. Meanwhile, my poor dog sat blinking grumpily on the lawn, getting soaked and waiting for mom and dad to finish so he could go for his walk.

I probably won't be wearing these boots to Scotland this May, so I enjoy them now.

Now it's time to meet Keith at the pub for a Guinness. I love spring break!

Though spring is most definitely here, it's still brisk outside. Coming home means making a big mug of hot herbal tea and warming my hands.

These mugs were a great find the other weekend. I love oversized mugs and for the first few days I couldn't figure out why they had such a tiny handle. I have small hands, sure, but I think I finally got it figured out. Thumb loops!

(Since so many people have commented about them to me -- yes we also use them as soup bowls! :)

We went for a short hike after work this evening, taking our "usual" path to Ilchester rocks with Zachary. The light was muddy, the earth still brown and sleeping before the explosion of spring. I haven't been to the top of the cliff in months but each time I look over the edge a little part of me cries for how it changes. I did not grow up in this historic little town although I live here now, and I do not have stories of the seminary and the crazy caretaker with his shotgun.

But I do remember when this area of the park was a secluded hangout for hippies and kids, before so much trash and junk was thrown over the side and spray paint smeared the stones. Most of all, I remember back when the paved walkways were no more than scant deer tracks through lush green undergrowth. Every weekend we'd walk there was a true getaway from city life.

Now the shouts of noisy children follow me wherever we go, no matter how far we walk.

Day 4 - Today we paid a visit to the in-laws. Most of my time was spent talking over jasmine green tea with a cat in my lap. This one, Sanskrit, is a complete cutie-pie who shared a mutual need for warmth. I've never had a cat in my life because until a few months ago I was exceptionally allergic to even the thought of a cat. Since I have changed my diet, I have had absolutely no problems petting and snuggling one. I can see myself possibly taking in a cat in the distant future, as some of them can be quite lovable.

Also, it was a beautiful day and so I had to wear my favorite skirt and boots. The angle of this shot is making me twitch with self-consciousness, but who ever looks good when they're looking downwards? Meh.

Sitting and waiting. A lot of my weekends are absorbed by doing necessary things, which is probably a good thing so those things actually get done in the course of a week. This morning was spent visiting a good friend who is in the hospital recovering from surgery, and then the entire afternoon was waiting for my car to get new tires. I love my car, love it, but F'n ow. It's not new anymore and has been my companion on many, many adventures but each time it's got to get an operation I see that 5D and 70-200 slipping farther away.

Get well soon, Nicole! We love you.

Day two and already I feel like I've hit a wall. Today started at 4:03 AM and I've scarcely sat down since. A particularly fitting end to a hellish week... and I still have no clue what's for dinner. After I took this shot, it really did take about ten minutes for me to get up.

On the back of my right hand is the remains of the stamp from the venue last night where we saw Seabound perform for the first time in 6 years. No matter what I do I cannot get it to completely wash off. The irony of the situation cannot be missed - that you spend so many nights in the club bathroom trying to wash off the bouncer's marks when you're underage, but when you're legal you can't get it off with anything short of dermabrasion.

For almost 29 years I've had boring hair. Finally as 30 crawls closer I'm starting to feel my ovaries. Bethany did a great job and I am amused that I can finally tell people "My stylist said..." I love having short hair, though I think I want a few more inches of the snip-snip, soon.
