2008 Women's Olympic Marathon Trial, Boston, Ma
* All three qualifiers hail from the State of California. This marks the first time more than one athlete from the same state will be represented in the Women’s Marathon at the Olympic Games.
* Blake Russell is the first woman to make the team after previously being the first alternate (2004)
* Magdalena Lewy-Boulet and Blake Russell make the Olympic Team after having finished fourth and fifth in 2004. This marks the first time in Olympic Trials history the fourth and fifth place finishers have made the subsequent Olympic Team.
* Linda Somers Smith finished in 2:38:49, setting a U.S. 45 and over record, surpassing Joan Samuelson who ran Chicago in 2:42:28.
* Joan Benoit Samuelson’s time of 2:49:08 set a record for US 50 , Shirley Matson, Twin Cities Marathon 1993, 2:50:26
* Deena Kastor beat her 2004 trials time by four seconds.
* Joan Samuelson joins Bev Boddicker Docherty for the most Olympic Trials Finishes with six.
