With flowers opening purple, then turning pale lavender and finally white, Yesterday-Today-and-Tomorrow is an aptly named little shrub.

Denise > Devil's Trumpet (Datura metel) (March 26, 2005)

The Devil's Trumpet grows 3 or 4 feet tall with large, dark green leaves, sometimes with purple stems. The foliage has a rank smell, but the large, trumpet-shaped flowers have a sweet fragrance that permeates the garden, especially in the mornings and evenings. They come in single and double forms, and a variety of colors, from white to yellow and light to dark purple.

Denise > Devil's Trumpet (Datura metel) (March 2, 2008)

It is now three years since I planted the Devil's Trumpet in my yard. Actually, I planted it in a pot. A few weeks ago, I noticed a plant growing behind my Gardenia. It didn't appear to be a weed, so I let it grow. I began to notice a purple stem and thought hmmmmmmm - could it be?? Then I noticed very large buds and then I knew . . . one of the seeds from the original plant had sprouted. The leaves are HUGE and the flowers are just magnificent!!
