Romero > This is the view of the parking lot of the apartment complex we lived in while id Software was in Madison, Wisconsin. This picture was taken in 2006 but it looks like it did back in 1991.

Same amount of crack dealers and junkies too!

Romero > This is a view of the complex from the street. My apartment was visible from this location.....don't look for it too hard - it looks just like all the others. And is a piece of shit.

Romero > Right in the middle of the picture is the apartment where John Carmack lived and id Software worked.
It was a 3 bedroom apartment so John was upstairs and all the id equipment was downstairs.
We were only here for 6 months. The sky was just as gray back then so we just stayed inside and made Keens 4-6 and the beginning of Wolfenstein 3D.

Romero > Here's a nice piece of ancient history - some of Ultima 5's C64 tile drawing code! Dr. Cat was the guy doing the Apple to C64 port and a note by Dallas Snell was written telling him to use the tile drawing code that Chris Roberts had written. If Cat had any questions about it then just ask Richard Garriott!

Any C64 coder can see that we're drawing tiles in mixed mode here, thanks to the sickening "colrmem EQUAL $D800" directive! I hated that graphics mode almost as much as Apple II double-res.

I'll rescan it when I find it again so it doesn't look so ass.

Romero > This is a transfer disk circa 1991 from when we were working on various games for Softdisk and were still passing around data without a network. I had a different disk for each project with little drawings like this on them. I need to get into my storage to see how many are left.
