Coughton Court is one of the last Roman Catholic house left in the country and still retain many of its historic treasures. Since the 15th century it has been the home of the Throckmorton family. There is a close connection with this house to the gunpowder plot of 1605 and remained a centre for Catholicism despite the persecution at the time. The house contains many priest holes where religious "refuseniks" could be hidden away.
