jkadventures > Horse-hair pots by Pottery Artist Deirdre Hunt

Deirdre's Horse-hair pots are thrown from English porcelain. After being burnished with a stone they are bisque fired.

They are then heated to 1880 degrees at which point the kiln is opened, the pot removed and horse hair touched to the sides.

The horse hair burns into the surface of the pot creating it's own unique pattern. It is believed that this technique was invented by Native Americans.

Pictured left are pots made with the tail combings of Dierdre's 41 year old mare, Senna.

Deb & Lynne are a daughter- mother team who enjoy working with fabric. The quilts are all different and unique. Deb learned basic sewing from her Mom when she was around 10 years old, quilting from her grandmother, and color variance from her sister. The sisters (& mom) do craft shows together in the fall, and are always willing to help other people learn different techniques for quilting, knitting, crocheting, etc.

jkadventures > Photography by Christine Nettleton

With my photography I like to use nature's palette to stir an emotion deep inside my audience, without them ever even consciously thinking about it.

With my photography I want to bring to my audience the awe, the quiet, and the strength that I feel when I am in that moment in the world.

With my photography I want others to know how they bring their own qualities to the landscape, and the need to take care to understand the consequences of their actions in their greater world.

With my photography I want my audience to realize how deeply tied humans are to the earth, that they feel the kinship, and strive to protect it, as they would their own family.

I especially want each person who sees my pictures to share in the beauty found in every part of the world.

Please share and enjoy my pictures.

jkadventures > Propensity (Earth-Art) by Cindy Williams and Paula Gibson

Propensity - "an innate inclination to be" ...again

For thousands of years this earth has produced a seemingly endless supply of plant and animal matter, independent of one another in the original design are now combed to be again.

We walk through the world without noticing that it is constantly changing. Plants and animals die, rocks erode and some things become extinct. That is the circle of life. Propensity is designed to stop time a create a modality for nature to continue to bless our lives.

Propensity combines thing thah are so totally different than what they were originally, yet continue to provide the beauty and energy of the living past. We can only sense that magnificence that was, and appreciate the uniqueness of each living creature, whether it be a plant, animal, bird or sea creature.

To assemble natural things in miniature form gives a small mental view of e original grandeur. As you enjoy viewing, touching and sharing the earth-art, you are also benefiting from it's energy and survival strength.

Within each piece assembled by Cynthia, a union of cactus bleached by wind, or feathers which once flew high above this earth with grace and elegance may contribute to the final product.

The components of each Propensity piece have been altered as little as possible during the assembling process.Every part of each earth-art retains it's natural color, texture and shape although some wood pieces have a sealer applied for preservation purposes and some animal hides have been dyed to enhance their appearance.

No thing was harmed in the gathering of materials. Each item was carefully collected, cleaned and respectfully assembled with the same living energy that once created them all.
