50 Photos - The Yosemite National Park gallery features America's most beautiful national park. Be sure to look at the rare "fire fall" photos I captured in 2008 showing burning embers cascading down the 4,000 foot granite cliff reminiscent of the REAL fire fall from Glacier Point in years past. While on a brief vacation in Yosemite, May 2008, a fire started at the very top of the cliff above the Ahwahnee Hotel in a spot directly opposite Glacier Point. For those familiar with a bit of Yosemite history, until being stopped in 1968, a large campfire was started at Glacier Point about 4,000 feet above Curry Village. When the pile of embers had become massive enough, a conversation of yells took place between the hundreds gathered in Curry Village on the valley floor and those above at Glacier Point. Eventually the guests would yell, "Let the fire fall"! The massive flow of embers would then be pushed over the Glacier Point cliff creating an impressive display...a kind of waterfall of burning embers.
Jump to May 2008: The fire on the cliff created embers that fell off the cliff a few times recreating, if you will, the 'fire fall' of years past.
