Construction of
Fort Zachary Taylor began in 1845, shortly after Florida became a state. In 1850, the fort was named after U.S. President Zachary Taylor, who died in office earlier that year.

USS Mohawk CGC (Coast Guard Cutter)
The USS Mohawk CGC was built in in 1934 for the Coast Guard. The ship served in World War II and was involved in 14 attacks against Nazi Submarines on the Atlantic Ocean. She and her crew also saved many lives from the icy waters. The Mohawk is the last remaining ship of her kind, is still operational, and is the Memorial Ship of the "Battle of the Atlantic."
