The item to the upper left is a candle holder (a.k.a. water holder) with a bright LED light propped behind it. I didn't feel like emptying the water out for a candle so I improvised.

kre8ive > Run, You Coward...07/27/08 Yep, he thinks if he looks at it long enough it will take flight on its own accord. BTW: I love the way his shadow (mouth and head) makes him look like a porpoise!
kre8ive > The Zone (B&W)...07/26/08 Always take your photos with contrast in mind (you can't correct for that effectively in PhotoShop) and make sure you can see a strong black and a strong white (going back to the old red vs green vs yellow vs blue vs orange filter days). You want to start with a file you can work with. I knew, before I took this shot, that it was going to be B&W. I tried to create flat lighting so that I could work with the shadows (and the highlights would just fall into place...Zone). Decide if you have more shadows than highlights. This determines the lighting. Comments are for those who know whom I'm speaking to. Others, just enjoy. Note: This is a representation of a platinum print.
kre8ive > Present...07/25/08 Inspired by a recent conversation. Sorry, I didn't mean for this to be a, "What Is It?" It's a Mont Blanc pen photographed on a sheet of phone bling. That's so far out there that it would have been one lucky guesser to figure it out.
kre8ive > Hummingbird...07/24/08 This isn't a great hummingbird (HB) shot (not even a good one) but my last hummingbird shot was done in high school. Lady Kate wanted me to get this shot and a word of warning: DO NOT wear a shirt that has a giant (albeit faded) hibiscus flower on it when photographing these guys. I ducked and swatted more 'hornets' today only to realize they were TINY HBs. (I bought my T-shirt in Malaysia...I guess it's realistic!) To attract the many different HBs today I put the flower of a large fake hibiscus in a shallow bowl of homemade 'nectar.' I had a male and female (pictured here) ruby throated hummingbird show up and a teeny-weeny calliope hummingbird. I honestly thought it was a hummingbird moth (or a hornet). The little guy was a bit pesky! Today was overcast and all-around yucky! I was using my 300mm ED lens. This lens renders my camera as manual mostly. For this shot I chose f 4.0, 800 ASA (er...ISO), and 1/320th of a second.
