Dawkins > Peacock feathers for sale. No edits. Photo taken June 7, 2009 at the 39th Annual Rendezvous at Fort de Chartres State Historic Site http://www.ftdechartres.com).
Dawkins > This robin flitted in and out of the trees in the back yard for a long time before landing at the very top of this cedar tree. The dull, gray sky was not modified. It was very overcast and rainy all day. May 2009.
Dawkins > This mama Robin has a nest with three babies just outside the back door. In this photo she appears almost worn down from taking care of the little ones. Or maybe she's just looking at her feet. One of those. Image cropped in PSE6. June 2009.
Dawkins > This is the whole family of Robins that have nested in the back of the house on the gutter drain lines. The parent Robins spend the day going back and forth taking turns with the babies. June 2009.
Dawkins > Feeding the babies. The Robin parents are constantly going back and forth bringing food to their three babies. They sit for a couple of minutes and close their eyes to rest in between feedings. They built their nest on the gutter drain line in back of the house. June 2009.
Dawkins > Dove in the cedar tree out back. Original image was not quite as clear as I had hoped it would be. That happens sometimes when I try to focus on small things that are far away. I tried adjusting the image clarity but decided to crop the image and add "poster edges" effect instead (PSE6). May 2009
Dawkins > Photo taken at World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, MO (www.worldbirdsanctuary.org) on April 20, 2009. This was a wild one flying over the caged bird area and really stirring things up. Image was cropped slightly with contrast and lighting adjusted in PSE6.

Dawkins > Crane at Prairie Lake in Mascoutah, Illinois Sept. 2008
Dawkins > Penguins in the sun at the St. Louis Zoo. Sorry to say but these bad boys were stinking a lot more than some of the other animals. It was near 60 degrees yesterday which was nice for a walk around the zoo but maybe a little warm for these guys. Maybe they were sweaty and that made them stink? April 2009. www.stlzoo.org

Dawkins > This owl's feathers really blend in with the ground! Photo taken April 20, 2009 at World Bird Sanctuary in MO. No edits.
Dawkins > Looks like there might be a conversation going on between these two but the Goose is actually a good distance away from the Bison. You can't really tell that from this angle. Lone Elk Park in MO is a drive-thru park for viewing Bison, Elk, Deer, etc. You get to stay in your car and make a loop around the grounds taking photos or just watching for the animals. The park also has areas reserved for picnics or fishing. Photo taken April 20, 2009.
Dawkins > Validating the boyscout motto of "Always be prepared", I did happen to have my camera with me while I was out running errands November 6, 2008. On my way home, I spotted them - chickens in the corn field! There were actually 6 chickens in the cornfield but I needed to crop the photo to draw them into view. We're left with two and they look pretty good, I think. This farm is off Shiloh Station Road in Shiloh, IL.

Dawkins > We found this kitten in the corn field behind His Rest B&B in 2007. He mewed for the longest time before we could coax him out with food.
Dawkins > I found this red squirrel over at Prairie Park in Mascoutah, IL on the morning of Dec. 31, 2008. The high temperature for that day was around 30 degrees. Just the day before, it was a warm 65 degrees. I didn't plan on seeing this little guy. I had stopped to take a photo of the high water in Silver Creek (behind him).
Dawkins > I just got my camera back from Canon. This is a test photo that I took to see how things are working. My S5IS has had 9 or 10 things replaced on it in the past 11 months. That's pretty disappointing. Anyway, this squirrel was sitting in the maple tree out in the front yard and was so loud with trying to get into this nut that I actually could hear him from inside the house! Squirrels have long fingers, huh? I think the camera is working okay now. The squirrel was pretty high up in the tree and I wasn't positive with the focus. I think I'm off just a little but it's probably operator error, in this case. February 12, 2009.

Dawkins > This is Banjo. He's the spur-tortoise mascot for Silver Creek Mill in Mascoutah, IL. May 2009. No edits.
Dawkins > Banjo is an African Spurred Tortoise who loves at Silver Creek Mill in Mascoutah, IL. This photo is a close-up of his shell. A woman came into the store one day last year when I was volunteering. She plopped Banjo up on the counter at the check out and asked me to tell her about the artist who created it. I started to tell her the story about how God made all the animals...she had no idea he was real. She thought he was a wood carving. He does have a great texture doesn't he?
Dawkins > During Summer 2008, my son was driving home from school and spotted a turtle in the middle of the road. He scooped it up and brought it home. The turtle didn't stay long. He continued on his original path towards the lake but I did get a few photos of him. This close-up of his shell shows Creation's humor. See the dancer silhouette?

Dawkins > Bison at Lone Elk Park in Valley Park, MO. Photo taken April 20, 2009. Cropped slightly.

Dawkins > Brown bear at the St. Louis Zoo just after lunch time on April 20, 2009. For such a large animal, it sure has small feet, don't you think? No edits.
Dawkins > This is the new baby giraffe at the STL Zoo. He was out with the other giraffes and an ostrich. The ostrich was as tall as this baby but sort of mean because he kept pecking the baby. No edits. April 20, 2009. Admission to the Saint Louis Zoo is still free. Parking on the street is free, too if you don't mind walking. www.stlzoo.org.
